I flopped onto the empty bench and leant back.
"This is impossible!" After hours of searching for the perfect present and outfits, we had given up. Alexa joined me and we stared at the opposite wall in frustration.
Sammy had been raving about her sixteenth birthday party, telling us how amazing it was going to be. We were all excited until we got the invitations yesterday and realised we had almost no time to go shopping. "We got the present at least..."
"Half of it. It's her sixteenth! I think we should get something to go with the necklace. Earrings?" I turned to face my best friend who was shaking her head in protest.
"She told me her mum was getting her earrings. Perfume?" Alexa turned to face me now. I shrugged. It was a good idea, but good perfume was getting really expensive. No harm in looking though, right?
"We could try, I guess. But if it's too expensive I'm going to have no more money and I really need to get a new dress, maybe even shoes," With all our friends being around the same age, this year, everyone seemed to be turning sixteen. Big parties, flashy clothes, expensive gifts...
"You'll be fine. I found this amazing store the other day that sells the most gorgeous dresses really cheap." She sat forwards fast but then stopped suddenly, looking upset, "I don't want to get up! Help me, Kris?" Feeling full of energy from our little rest, I jumped up and extended my hand to help Alexa. "Thanks. Okay! There's this little shop that I think has good perfume. Most of the clothes are cheap, so we can only hope that the perfume is too. Let's go!"
We set off at a brisk pace knowing we only had two hours left in which to bring everything together. As we were walking, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out and unlocked it before opening the message.
I'm here. Where do you want me to meet you?
I smiled and quickly typed a reply. Alexa suddenly nudged me hard in the ribs and I snapped out of my 'happy trance' as she refers to it.
"He texted you, didn't he?" Alexa can always tell, but I guess my smile would have given it away. I nodded, "He's here isn't he?" Damn, she's good... I nodded again. She shook her head,
"You're hopeless, you know?" I smiled again. I was probably the most immature person she knows and yet she still goes out in public with me... "I thought you'd stopped liking him?"
"I did, but he's still my best guy-friend and just because I don't like him doesn't make him any less hot..." It was half true. I still had feelings for him, but I didn't like him as much as I had previously. Alexa turned into a shop that was so white and well lit, it was nearly blinding. She guided me straight to the perfume. I picked up a large bottle that was only twenty five dollars. Smelling the lid, I decided my theory was more or less right. Good perfumes are usually expensive.
"This one's pretty good..." Alexa handed me a small purple bottle that was for thirty dollars. I smelt it and although it was intoxicating, it had a nice aroma. I nodded. "We'll buy this one then!" She declared with gusto.
"No, sorry, you're not allowed to buy that one." Alexa turned around in horror.
"Wha... Oh. It's you." There stood Noah. It amazes me how he always looks incredible... "So why can't we buy it?" Alexa folded her arms. Unfortunately for her, next to Noah she doesn't look intimidating at all. Then again, no one would next to a six foot four fifteen year old.
