Adrenaline was pumping throughout her body like never before. The trees were nothing but mere images in her eyes as her legs brought her to safety. The smell of gun powder filled her nose as yet, another gun shot rang throughout the once silent and calm woods, causing a flock of birds to fly away in fear. Her heart was beating wildly against her chest as if it was about to jump out any time soon.
She couldn't believe how oblivious and naive she was with him. Tyler seemed like a nice guy and couldn't even hurt a damn fly! But now she knew, that he was nothing but a bloody monster, inside and out. Everything he had said and promised were nothing but a bunch of lies. But, I guess, the saying "never judge a book by its cover" was actually true. If she had just noticed the red signs a long time ago, then she wouldn't be in this situation right now.
After a while of endless running and dodging , Bernn took a short stop to catch her breath and calm her nervous mind. So far, she had lost him a few miles back, but she wasn't sure anymore after he just vanished like smoke. She had no choice, if she wanted to get away from the crazy hunter, then she had to shift. It wasn't the brightest move, but getting away was the first thing in her mind, unless she wanted to end up like her dead mate. Just the thought of her dead mate, David caused her to tear up.
Sighing shakily, she closed her eyes and shifted into her wolf form. The sound of bone cracking was the only thing that was heard as her hands and feet turned into paws. A muzzle soon appeared on her features until she fully turned into her wolf form. There she stood in all fours, her black fur shining against the sun and her green eyes glinting with wonder and anticipation.
Werewolves with black fur and green eyes were the rarest breed and only added one percent of the werewolf population, and she was one of them. It would be an honor to have a rare one in your pack, but in her situation, it wasn't. She was bullied, abused and mistreated, and adding to the fact that she was an Omega. Despite that they treated her badly, she however couldn't bring herself to hate them. After all, it was her duty as an Omega to reduce the packs stress and anger even if it meant getting hurt.
Her thoughts were immediately cut short as another gun shot was fired and a growl left her throat as a bullet grazed her skin. Instead of attacking like any normal animal would do, Bernn did the unexpected. She ran away.
She knew that she shouldn't have done that, but she wasn't strong and experienced enough to fight off a hunter and protect herself at once. Briefly looking back, she caught a glimpse of Tyler aiming the rifle at her retreating form and her ears could only make out a few words, but she knew it was how she didn't choose to fight and her cowardly action.
Turning her focus back to where she was going, she knew that by the time she left the packs territory, her life would never be the same ever again. But, she didn't care, for surviving the chaos and madness she brought herself into was the only thing in her mind.
