How the FUCK are we on FORTY CHAPTERS????? That's so insane to me.

On another note, I'm hurrying to get this done because I'm royally procrastinating two essays I need to write before Wednesday and I much prefer writing this fic.

I wonder what fic I'll write next🤔

After weeks of speculation, the news is finally out: Franco Colapinto has been announced as Lamborghini's reserve driver for the remainder of the 2023 Formula 1 season, with hopes of a multi-year contract extension in the near future. But this isn't just a story about a driver finding a lifeline - this is about the unexpected mentorship of Lamborghini's golden boy and fellow Argentine, Tomás Facundo, who gave another a chance to shine.

It all started at the Austrian Grand Prix, where Colapinto was captured alongside Facundo in the Lamborghini garage. Then, a week later, news arose of the young Argentine's conquests in Bologna, where he'd been sent by the team to test new machinery and prove himself - something he clearly used to his advantage, considering the announcement of his signing this morning.

But the seeds for this move were planted much earlier. A week before the Grand Prix in Austria, Facundo was spotted trackside of a F2 race in Marseille, accompanied by former rival and McLaren driver Oscar Piastri. At the time, it seemed like a casual visit, but now it's clear that Facundo wasn't just there as a spectator. Not to mention the week that followed, where Colapinto reportedly spent time at Facundo's home in the Bolognese countryside, alongside the likes of Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, and current World Champion Max Verstappen. While the stay is only a rumour, one thing was for certain: Colapinto's emergence into the F1 world was far from over.

Facundo's role in Colapinto's signing cannot be overstated. The Lamborghini driver, fighting for the World Championship in only his fourth F1 season, personally vouched for Colapinto when Team Principal Stefano Domenicali asked for recommendations for future reserve drivers. Facundo didn't just recommend Franco; he advocated for him, giving the young driver a chance to showcase his abilities during the test sessions in Bologna.

"Taz has been like a big brother to me," Colapinto said during the announcement. "He's believed in me when no-one else did, and I can't thank him enough for that. Everyone always thinks his arrogance on track carries over into his personal life, but it's untrue. Spending time with him, learning from him, has been incredible. I am forever grateful to him for giving me this chance, to Lamborghini for giving me this chance, and I can't wait to join the family."

Facundo himself downplayed his role, but his pride in the young Argentine was evident. "He has something a lot of current Formula 2 stars don't and that's fire. It's what put me where I am and I proud it's landed Franco in the same position. He's earned it, and I know he's not going to waste it."
