It had been one of those rainy days in Dublin. The type of day where the world outside seems to blur, as if everything is soft and muffled, like the earth was holding its breath.
And yet, inside the small coffee shop, there was a warmth that made everything seem just a little bit more bearable.
You sat at the corner table, your gaze tracing the rain as it streaked down the window.
The sound of soft conversation and the gentle clink of coffee cups surrounded you, but your thoughts were elsewhere.
Life had been a little complicated lately, and you couldn’t help but feel like you were caught in between moments—wanting something but not sure what that something was.
Then, the door creaked open, a rush of cold air sweeping through the shop as a familiar face walked in.
Niall. His hair was a bit tousled from the rain, and his jacket was damp, but his smile was ever-present, the kind of smile that always made you feel like everything might just be okay.
You tried not to stare, but it was impossible. He had this effortless charm, and even when the world felt like it was on your shoulders, Niall had a way of making it feel like you could breathe again.
He made his way over to you, his eyes lighting up when he saw you.
“Hey, love,” he said, sliding into the seat across from you. “Mind if I join?”
You smiled, pushing aside the weight on your chest. “Of course not, Niall. I’m glad you’re here.”
He leaned back in his chair, his eyes scanning the rain outside, and for a moment, the world felt still.
He took a deep breath, as if trying to gather his thoughts, before turning his gaze back to you.
“You’ve been quiet lately,” he remarked, his tone gentle, yet laced with concern. “You okay?”
You hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to respond. There were so many things on your mind, things that didn’t feel right, things you couldn’t quite put into words.
But somehow, with Niall, you didn’t need to explain everything. He could always read between the lines.
“I don’t know,” you finally said, your voice barely above a whisper.
“It just feels like I’m stuck between what I want and what I think I should want. Like I’m caught in a moment, and I don’t know how to move forward.”
Niall reached across the table, his hand covering yours in a comforting gesture.
“That’s totally fair,” he said. “I think we all go through that. Sometimes we try so hard to make sense of everything that we forget it’s okay to just... not have it figured out. It doesn’t make you weak.”
You looked at him, the words he said sinking in. His hand was warm against yours, and in that moment, it felt like everything in your life that had been uncertain suddenly seemed a little bit clearer.
“You’re right,” you admitted, squeezing his hand. “I’ve been trying so hard to figure everything out, but maybe I just need to trust that it’ll all come together when the time is right.”
He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and there was that feeling again—that sense of peace you always felt when you were with him. Niall wasn’t one to give grand speeches, but the way he spoke, the way he listened, it made you feel like you were enough just as you were.
“You’re already enough, you know,” he said quietly. “Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
The words hit you in a way that made your chest tighten. He always knew just what to say, and somehow, he managed to make everything feel like it was going to be okay, even when you couldn’t see it yourself.
As the rain continued to pour outside, you and Niall stayed there in the quiet comfort of each other’s company, both of you letting the silence speak the words that were too difficult to say aloud. Sometimes, it wasn’t about figuring everything out or rushing to find answers. Sometimes, it was about being present, about accepting that it’s okay to not have all the answers and just trust that things would fall into place.
And as you sat there with him, the weight you’d been carrying for so long felt just a little bit lighter. Because maybe, just maybe, you didn’t need to have everything figured out. Maybe you just needed to be right here, right now, with him.
That’s so true.
