Your main character, or their close friend or family member, is addicted to a future (or from across the dimensions) drug. This drug could be like today's drug that cause temporary relief and happiness, or it could be a drug that does good.
For example, I had an idea for a character that was certifiably blind (being she isn't completely blind but has bad enough eyesight that she is considered blind) but was able to use a power crystal to cure her eyes by feeding off the magic power of the crystal. She was training to being a fighter against the evil demons that crossed the land, but when she runs out of power crystals in the middle of a fight she is rendered blind and helpless again. With this event her close friends realize what a danger this addiction is becoming and force her to abandon the power crystals. She must overcome not only her disability but also find it within herself the courage to learn to fight again. There is the constant argument pulsing in her mind that she is useless when she is blind and she must emotional overcome it to learn how to lead her team again. This challenge is about a character who must overcome an addiction-whether a bad drug or a good drug that got out of hand-in order to fight for the world. You can take this anywhere you like with addiction and war and depression and destiny and love and family. It can be as long or as short as you like, there is no deadline or limit. Let your imagination run wild! (-:
