"Why do you need to know?" He snapped.
"I-I just wanted to know," I told him.
"Can't I do something nice without being questioned?!" He practically yelled at me. I looked down and turned my back on him.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you," I stutter. I'm about to walk away, but then I hear him sigh.
"Wait. My name is Jake," he said. I turn around and face him.
"Thanks again, Jake. I'm Persephone." I give him a small smile and turn around. As I'm walking away, I realize I don't know where I'm going. I stop walking and look around for some sort of shelter. In front of me is the diner, to my left is the woods, and to my right is a bunch of buildings with the lights out. I can't go back to the diner, so I'll just walk until I find a Walmart or something that I can hang out in till the morning.
As I'm walking pass the diner, I see Cathy watching me. I don't think she's very happy with me. I start walking faster. More buildings come up on my left, I pass three houses. Suddenly there's a large, cold, grimey hand over my mouth and something cold and sharp being held against my neck. The person smells like garbage, it made me gag.
"Do what I say, princess and you won't get hurt," a deep voice whispered in my ear. "Understand?" He asked. I nodded my head in response. "Give me everything you have," he ordered. I went to reach into my pocket, then I stomp on his foot as hard as I can and I elbow him in the gut. He drops the knife and bends over, clutching his stomach. I run out of the alley that he pulled me into, and towards the diner.
I pass the diner and I turn my head to see if he followed me. I bump into something that feels like a wall, I fall on my butt from the impact. What the? I look up and see the back of a tall man. He turns around and glares at me. Jake? He picks me up and puts me on my feet.
"Whatch where you're going," he said.
"I-I'm sorry," I say. I can feel my eyes begin to water and vision starts to blur. He stares at me for a minute, his face softens and he sighs while shaking his head. He then frowns again.
"Come on," he says while motioning for me to follow him.
"Wait, w-where are we going?" I stutter.
"To my place," he responds.
"Why?" I've stopped crying by now.
"Do you have anywhere else to stay?" He had a point there. I don't have anywhere to stay.
"No," I said as I jogged to catch up with him. We walked in silence for a bit, and then Jake announced that we are here. I looked at the giant mansion that was in the middle of the woods. The driveway led up to three garages and it went around the house. Jake walked around to the back, while I followed. We walked into the house through a set of glass, double doors. I thought it looked nice on the outside, but it was even nicer on the inside.
"Follow me and don't make a sound," Jake whispers to me. I nod and tiptoe up two flights of stairs behind him. I follow him down a hallway and into a bedroom.
The bedroom was huge. There was a small sitting area with a big window that overlooks the backyard and there was a king size bed with a black and white blanket on top of it, in the middle of the room. There is a giant TV on the wall across from the bed. The bed looks extremely appealing right now. I'm exhausted.
"Don't leave this room. I'll be back in a bit," Jake said to me. I nodded and he walked out the door. As soon as he left I kicked my shoes off and threw my jacket on the couch in the sitting area. I dive under the covers of the bed and instantly fell asleep.

I wake up with the sun shining in my eyes. I stretch and sit up. I look around the room. Wait, where am I?! How did I get here?! Then I remember. Oh, right. Where is Jake? I get out of this amazing bed and walk around the room. I see a pile of clothes with a piece of paper on top.
Don't leave the room. I'll be back in a couple of hours. Here are some clean clothes and the TV remote is on the nightstand. - Jake
Ugh. Hours? That'll be soooo long. At least he left me the remote to the TV. I need to go to the bathroom and shower though. I walk in the bathroom and it's huge too. The shower can have at least three or four people in it and there's a big bathtub in the corner.
I look at myself in the mirror. I have little pieces of leaves, dirt, and twigs in my hair and I have a bunch of dirt on me. I take my clothes off and get in the shower. I turn on the shower and it's a waterfall shower! The water pours down on top of my head, washing away the dirt of the woods and the grime of the man. Temporarily washing my troubles down the drain.
I wash and get out. I grab a towel off the rack by the shower. I wrap myself in the towel, walk out the bathroom, and get dressed. The clothes he left me are a bra, underwear, a baggy T-shirt, leggings, and a pair of flip-flops. Comfy clothes! Awesome! I put everything on except the flip-flops, I then grab my dirty clothes and put them in the corner.
I grab the TV remote and go back under the covers. I turn on the TV and start flipping through the channels. I find a movie about a girl who has magic ice powers and she freezes her sister's heart. I watch the movie and when it ends, my stomach grumbles.
Jake isn't back yet and I'm hungry. Where is he? I think I saw a kitchen on the main floor. I can probably sneak down there and get some food. I don't think anyone will see me.
I get out of bed and crack open the door. No one's there, so I tiptoe down the stairs to the main floor. I look around for a minute, then I see my target, the kitchen. No one is in here, I lucked out. I start going through the cabinets. Ah ha! Bingo! Doritos and Oreos. I grab them and go to the fridge. I grab two waters and a Gatorade. I'm struggling to carry all this as I walk up the stairs.
I'm on the second floor when I hear yelling. I walk towards it and I end up in front of a door. I put my ear against the door.
"Are you sure about this?" A deep voice asked.
"Yes," another voice said, but this one sounded familiar.
"How do you know?" The first voice asked.
"Because I-" That's when I stumble into the room. I was leaning on the door knob and I slipped, causing me to turn the knob and go in the room. Jake and a man an inch or two taller than him, with similar eyes to Jake, are standing beside a desk. They stare at me for a second before Jake walks over and puts his arm around me, pulling me forward, causing me to almost drop my food. I glare at him for a second.
"Max, this is my mate, Persephone," Jake said to the other man. My eyes widen at what he says. "Let's get you back upstairs, honey," Jake says. I just stare at him as he leads me out of the room.
