AU: they know shadow was made in a lab, they know he is stronger than he lets on, but don't know how strong he actually is. They don't know who created him or how he was created. They only know he has the powers of speed, enhanced healing, and is stronger than the average. They don't know shadow has a family or anything, since shadow is closed off due to Maria's death.
