Hansol

At first glance, Hansol seemed like any other boy, but he was slightly different from those of his age. His little sister Sophia made fun of him for sometimes looking like an old man philosophizing about this and that, but Hansol could do nothing to contradict her when he knew that everything was not what it seemed at first sight.

It was twelve o'clock on a Wednesday morning, exhausted, the mint-scented omega was thankful that his shift at the Yonsei cafeteria was over. In half an hour his first class of the day would begin.

Taking out the lunch that his mother had lovingly prepared for him in a lunch box, he prepared to eat on the first free bench he saw. Some students looked at him strangely because of his way of eating, which was not the most refined. Hansol just ignored that, or pretended to.

"Vernonie." A sweet scent of honey and strawberries reached his nostrils, it could only be one person, Hong Jisoo Joshua.

Hansol met Jisoo when he enrolled in the drama club, he could never forget how Joshua smiled warmly at him from the beginning and seemed to take him under his care.

The younger never knew how his hyung knew that some of his faculty were bothering him since Hansol was part of the scholarship program, Hansol only endured in silence, the faster he graduated and got a stable job the faster they would pay off the debt his father left them.

The debt.

Every time he thought about it and the amount of zeros that accompanied it gave him a terrible headache, his mother was already slightly aged to scare away the collectors, and clearly Hansol could no longer hide behind his mother's skirt.

As soon as they noticed that the eldest of Melody Vernon's children was an omega, indecent job proposals were quick to reach the ears of the youngest, Melody always refused, no child of hers would live in an indecent way because of that man who unfortunately was their father.

They had not yet paid him the salary of the month and the day of the visit of the moneylenders was approaching.

He bit the nail of his thumb trying to think of something, he did not know what else to do, he even ended up selling the scripts he wrote for novels to other students, he was an idiot, he knew that they gave him less than what he was worth but enough to pay off the amount to be paid for the month.

"Vernonie, eat slower, you'll choke." The omega at his side gently warned him, Hansol smiled with full cheeks and Jisoo caressed his hair as if he were a small child.

He never knew exactly what he did to catch Hong Jisoo's attention, maybe his western features or his accent. The truth was that Jisoo could see himself reflected in Hansol.

Vernon never told him about his father's debts, but Jisoo somehow or another sensed it when he saw him making confusing calculations at each break.

Hong Jisoo, at first glance, seemed to have his life figured out, everyone seemed to agree on one thing: he was the perfect accessory for Yoon Jeonghan, and that could only cause discontent in many.

It was not strange that many students were children of well-off families, had some sponsor or company interested in them as future workers, some even risked positioning themselves well by using marriages of convenience.

"My mother has cancer." Those were the words that Jisoo pronounced in their second meeting. His hyung's hands trembled on his lap, that facade of security crumbling before him "Before coming to Korea I was also full of debts, I sold all my filming equipment, I practically sold my dream, to pay for each session of mom's chemotherapy and I don't regret it. I'm not trying to tell you that we are the same Vernonie, just that your hyung understands you and I'm here for whatever you need."
