Chapter 18
Victoria
I have completed my first (VERY VERY VERY VERY CONFUSING) day at Annabelle's school! I got lost five times, almost walked into a boy's bathroom, figured out - ish - how things work around there, and I think I like it.
I'm surprised to know that there's a dance that night. Hmm. Should I go? I barely know anyone, but... Annabelle told me I should go because I'd make more friends and all that... Hmm... I GUESS I'LL GO. I guess so.

I couldn't convince Mom to let me not come to the dance in a limo, so I just got the limo guy (Robert) to drop me off two blocks away so it looks like I walked or something. He drops me off a block away. Oh well. Good enough.
When I get to the dance, I'm surprised to see how... cheap... it looks compared to the Lexington dances, but then again - it's a public school. What do I expect? I don't know. Nope, I don't.
I feel kind of over - dressed wearing a strapless light purple dress and a pair of silver hoops, silver heels, and a silver necklace. Mostly everyone else (well, the girls) is wearing jeans and a nice tank top that is kind of like a dress - tank - top or something that goes down a little longer or a nice t - shirt. The boys are just dressed mostly... normally. Yep. Sooo interesting.
I don't really understand what's with guys and their like... obsession with NEVER dressing NICELY. I mean, maybe they THINK they look good sometimes, but half the time they just look stupid. I cannot wait for them to grow up a little and realize that.
Annabelle and her two side - kick - ish people, Mabel and Ali, rush at me, and I'm overwhelmed almost at once by their endless chatter.
"Um, hi. Yeah." I manage to fit the three words (well, is "um" really a word? I don't know...) in before they nod, keep talking, jumping, and singing along to the songs - practically all at once. This is quite impressive!
"Oh. My. God." Annabelle says, "I'm going to die if Chase asks me to dance, and I'm going to die if he doesn't."
"So whatever happens... you die???" I ask, confused, "Doesn't that sound... bad?"
"Sure. Whatever. But I know who's going to ask ALI tonight! Ooooh... guess who..." I notice Ali's face get bright red (well, it's kind of just a pale pink because the room is so dark) as Annabelle finishes her sentence, "BLAKE."
"Nope. NO NO NO NO! Wrong, he hates me." Ali snaps, spins around on her heel, and rejoins our circle on my side this time. I guess it's hard to walk away from who's teasing you if it's like... two people out of three.
"Oh, yeah, RIGHT. He wouldn't have asked you out THREE times if he didn't like you." Mabel snorts.
"He feels sorry for me." Ali protests.
"Yeah, right." Mabel rolls her eyes.

We dance, scream, smile, sing, jump, and be crazy for the whole night. Around ten, the DJ yells over the crowd's noise, "LAST SONG OF THE NIGHT! HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD TIME!" The room divides almost automatically, girls and boys, from different grades in different groups.
Soon, different people come out from one group and walk over to another one and ask them to dance. (The last song is a slow song, like most places.) I see the famous Chase approaching, Ali is dancing with Blake for the fifth time that night, and I move over so Chase can get to Annabelle. I'm so happy for her! Yay!
But, strangely... He changes course. And starts walking towards me.
