The Goenka and Birla mansions, usually filled with warmth and joy, were now shrouded in an eerie silence, punctuated only by the desperate cries outside Ruhanika’s door.
Everyone stood there, their hands trembling, hearts pounding, as they pleaded for her to open the door.
"Ruhanika! Beta, open the door! Please!" Aarohi’s voice was raw with desperation as she pounded on the door.
Neil’s hands shook as he tried to turn the knob again. It was locked. His heart twisted in his chest. His daughter—his little princess—was inside, unresponsive. The very thought made his knees weak.
Akshu wiped her tears. "Junior Rockstar, please say something!" she cried, her voice breaking.
Abhimanyu clenched his fists. "Doll! Open the door now!" His mind was filled with terrifying thoughts.
Abhir and Shivu stood frozen, their faces pale. Their strong, fearless sister was inside, and no one knew what was happening.
Ruhi, standing at the back, felt something snap inside her. A deep, gnawing fear clawed at her chest. Something was terribly wrong.
"Move aside!" she screamed, her voice shaking. She turned to Abhir, her eyes wide with terror. "Abhir, help me break the door!"
Abhir didn’t hesitate. Together, they rammed against the door. Once. Twice. The third time, the lock gave way, and the door crashed open.
Nothing could have prepared them for what they saw.
Ruhanika lay unconscious on the floor, her once vibrant face now ghostly pale. A dark pool of blood spread around her, seeping into the cracks of the marble floor. The sharp scent of iron filled the room.
Aarohi’s shriek tore through the air as she rushed to her daughter. "RUHANIKAAA!"
She fell to the floor, pulling Ruhanika onto her lap, her hands trembling as she cupped her face. "Beta, wake up… meri bachi… please open your eyes!"
Neil collapsed beside them, his whole body shaking. His hands hovered over her limp form before finally grasping her wrist. "No… no, no, no! Princess, open your eyes! Papa is here!" His voice cracked as tears streamed down his face.
Akshu fell to her knees, covering her mouth. "No… this can’t be happening. My Junior Rockstar… no!"
Abhimanyu clenched his jaw, forcing himself to stay composed. He pressed his fingers to Ruhanika’s pulse. It was faint—too faint. "We need to get her to the hospital! Now!"
Abhir and Shivu were frozen in shock. Shivu clasped his hands together, whispering, "Please God… please save my sister!"
Abhir wiped his tears angrily, his fists clenched. "Nothing will happen to her! She’s strong! She has to be okay!"
But Ruhi—Ruhi was inconsolable. She collapsed beside Ruhanika, clutching her cold hands. Her entire body trembled with sobs.
"I… I fought with you, Ruha… I said such terrible things…" Her voice cracked as fresh tears poured down her cheeks. "I didn’t mean it… please wake up!"
The ambulance arrived, and the paramedics rushed in. They carefully lifted Ruhanika onto a stretcher, moving as quickly as they could.
Ruhi ran beside the stretcher, her fingers never leaving her sister’s. "Ruha, I’m here… I won’t leave you, okay? Please don’t leave me!"
At the hospital, the doctors rushed Ruhanika into the ICU. The family stood outside, helpless, their prayers silent but desperate.
Hours passed, each second stretching into an eternity.
Finally, the doctor stepped out, his expression grim. "She has lost a lot of blood. We have stabilized her for now, but the next 24 hours are critical."
The air left Aarohi’s lungs. She clutched Neil’s arm to keep from falling. "Doctor… she will be okay, right?"
The doctor didn’t answer. He simply gave them a look of sympathy before walking away.
Ruhi stood at a distance, her heart shattering into a million pieces. The weight of guilt pressed heavily on her chest.
She turned and walked away, her legs moving on their own.
She wandered through the hospital corridors, her mind a whirlwind of pain and regret.
Then, suddenly, she felt her knees give way.
She collapsed onto the cold floor, sobs wracking through her.
"Ruhi!" Akshu rushed to her side, holding her. "Beta, what happened?"
Ruhi looked up, her eyes filled with unbearable pain. "It’s my fault… everything is my fault!"
Akshu’s heart ached at the sight of her niece in so much agony. "No, Ruhi… don’t say that!"
Ruhi shook her head violently. "You don’t understand! I… I fought with her… I blamed her for everything. And now…" She covered her face, her body shaking. "And now, she’s fighting for her life."
A heavy silence filled the space between them.
Then, almost in a whisper, Ruhi said the words that sent a chill down Akshu’s spine.
"I don’t deserve to live."
Akshu gasped. "Ruhi, don’t—"
But Ruhi was already running.
