I woke up by the screaming voices around me. Before I opened my eyes I knew something was wrong. I could smell it. Fire. As I opened my eyes I saw the flames. They lit up my desk and the door next to it. That was the only way out of this tiny attic of a three-story house. I heard momma scream my name "Michelle!" through the floor. She screamed my name again and again. Her voice broke and I could hear she was crying.
I realized I was still in bed, frozen by fear. I got out immediately. Just in time, because the flames from my desk had reached the nightstand and started to lick my blanket a few seconds later. It smelled awful and the smoke didn't make it any better. It was getting harder to breathe with every second. I was losing the battle for oxygen from this greedy fire. I looked around, panicking but there was no other way out than the door, which I couldn't go through alive.
I had to calm down. School had taught us about fires like these. I remembered the smoke was just as deadly as the fire so I threw myself on the floor. The smoke would fill the room from the roof and slowly would make his way down in this room. So I had successfully bought myself another minute. But I knew I was going to die. Just as momma did when she screamed my name. The floor was incredibly hot. Probably warmed by the same fire going on a floor underneath mine. I prayed to God that my family would survive. I had a younger sister and brother and momma was expecting another baby soon. I couldn't hear her crying out my name anymore and hoped that was a good sign.
A roaring sound brought me back to my own burning situation. It was not like anything I had ever heard before but I immediately knew what made it. A fire breather had just unleashed his flare. Less than a second later I saw new flames peaking through the wooden roof of the house. The wooden beams creaked ominous and I felt my own death coming closer to me. I curled myself up to a ball, protecting my head with my hands, and waited. The next five seconds were the longest of my life as I waited for the roof to come down on me. When it did the impact was so great that the floor caved in. I fell down, surrounded by dragon fire.
