My eyes were still closed when I woke up. Whenever I wake up, I tend to doze in and out of consciousness several times before I actually wake up. This time I woke up on the first try because I felt that I wasn't in my bed back home in Georgia. I left my eyes closed in case I was home and wanted to go back to sleep, but I opened them when I felt around with my hands and grabbed a hand full of sand.
I opened my eyes and sat up to see that I was laying on a beach. It was hot, so luckily the only clothes I had was a muscle-shirt with skyscrapers and buildings on it in black, white, and grey and it said "NYC" across it in white letters and a pair of jeans. I used the shirt to wipe the sweat off of my light brown face.
I looked around and the beach was empty. Behind me were small rocks, big boulders, and a forest. I had no idea where I was or how I got there, but then I remembered how I had always wished for peace and some time to myself, and thought this was a gift from the gods above. I took off my black vans and stood with my feet in the water, letting the waves roll up and down my legs which were covered with a lot of hair, considering I was 17. I put my toes into the sand and stood there for a while, soaking in my surroundings and relaxing.
My relaxation time was over when I was body slammed face - first into the water by someone or something. My eyes were open and I could see the water turning red from the blood flowing from my nose. I struggled to get my head above water and to keep it there. I had determined it was a person based off of the fact that there was five fingers, the figure was heavy enough to keep me down, and it didn't have enough strength to crush my skull. I elbowed whoever it was in the stomach as hard as I could, and puke projected past my face. He loosened his grip and I used that moment to get up and run, hoping my 13 years of running baseball bases would pay off. I ran across the beach, grabbed my shoes, and ran into the forest, where I started to climb the nearest tree.
Once I was about 25 feet in the air, I paused to take a breather and look below me. I saw a guy that looked about my age climbing the tree after me. He was blonde with sharp, blue eyes. He looked exactly like a buffer Captain America to me. I didn't see any weapons on him, but I could tell that he was ready to kill me for some reason. I yelled down to him "Dude! What is your problem?! This isn't the Hunger Games!"
He paused and hesitated. He looked at me confused, and started climbing back down. Once at the bottom, he ran into the forest. I waited until I couldn't see him anymore, then I climbed down again, getting splinters in my foot. I waited until I was on the ground before I started to pick everything out of my feet.
I made my way back to the beach. Based off of where the sun was, I determined it was either three our four in the afternoon. That's when it dawned on me - I was in some place that I knew nothing about and I was alone. Thanks to me being in boy scouts, I didn't freak out. The first thing I did was look for a place to settle. Eventually, I realized that the beach was too wide open and the forest was too risky because I didn't know what lived there, including the guy that tried to drown me. The best place for me to sleep would be in a tree or for me to dig a tiny hole next to a boulder. I decided to sleep in a hole due to the fact that I toss and turn in my sleep.
I walked over to a medium sized boulder that was about 3 feet high. I steadily dug with my hands until I carved a hole big enough to fit me but small enough to go unnoticed. I'd have to sleep facing the boulder so I wouldn't inhale sand.
Since I already had a place to sleep, I took care of other things. I built a fire pit out of rocks, grass, sticks, and leaves, I lit a fire with rocks and flint that were laying around, and I filled my bed with grass so it would be more comfortable. By the time I did this, it was maybe around 6 because I wanted everything to be perfect. I let the fire stay ablaze about 7 feet away from my bed, which was close enough to feel it but not close enough for the wind to blow and light me on fire. With the sun setting and the fire warming me, I fell asleep and, oddly enough, didn't dream.
