Act one
The Audacious Princess

Princess Daenaera Targaryen, known to history as Daenaera the Audacious, was the only child of Prince Aemon Targaryen, the youngest brother of King Viserys I. Her mother—Lady Rhaenyth Velaryon, a niece of Queen Aemma Arryn—died in childbed, leaving the infant Daenaera motherless from her first breath. Tragedy struck again when her father, Prince Aemon, perished in battle not long after, leaving the princess orphaned before she could form memory of either parent.

Raised within the Red Keep, Daenaera came under the frequent care of her uncle Prince Daemon, who was said to have doted on the child with a fondness he rarely showed even to his own daughters. Their bond became a subject of whispered speculation among the court, with some claiming—quietly and never without caution—that Daenaera bore more than a passing resemblance to Daemon himself, and that perhaps her true paternity lay closer than was publicly acknowledged.

Fiery of spirit and fearless by nature, Daenaera was often likened to her uncle in both temperament and tongue. She possessed a biting wit and a penchant for mischief, and from an early age, she displayed the recklessness that had defined so many of the blood of Old Valyria. King Viserys, though wearied by strife within his own court, saw in his niece the living shadow of his brother's younger self—a daunting and dazzling force of nature, impossible to ignore.

At the age of six, Daenaera achieved what no other Targaryen had before her. With no prompting and against every command, she approached the silver-blue dragon Sylvarion, a beast known for its unyielding temperament and pride. Before the eyes of a stunned retinue, the child climbed onto the creature's back and took to the skies above Dragonstone. She returned an hour later, hair wind-tossed, cheeks aflame, and grinning as if she had stolen fire itself.

From that day forth, she was known as Daenaera the Audacious—the youngest recorded dragonrider in the history of the Targaryen dynasty.
