CHAPTER 1:
I frantically pull my hair into a quick bun, unclasp a few bobby pins with my teeth and stick them near the base of my bun.
I hastily grab my trench coat from the chair, where it was lazily slung over. I grab my bag from the counter and race out the door. I lock it behind me and run towards the staircase. I jump down two stairs at a time and when I reach the bottom, I fling the outside door open. I find myself in pouring rain. Another thing I forgot, my umbrella! I mentally scold myself and run toward the small gift shop on the corner of my street and another busy road.
When I reach the shop I open the door, light jingles sound above me as I enter. I close the door and head straight for the gift card section.
I glance at all the colourful cards. Two stand out. One is a small, blue card that simply says 'Happy 60th Birthday, Nan!' and the other is a larger grey card with a comical picture and a caption, 'Happy Birthday lazy bones!' I grab both of the cards and continuously glance between them. Choose the funny one, or the sweet one? I hold each of them closer to my face. I'm in a rush and I'm standing here gawking at the cards!
"Personally, I like the funny one," a guy from behind me says. He points to the card. Good! Funny one it is then! I whip around and only catch a pair of blue eyes. I didn't see his face. I walk hastily towards the counter and lay out a few coins for the card.
I grab the small plastic bag containing the card and run outside the shop. I jog towards the train station. I stop just at the taxi bay, as I look to cross the busy road.
"Hey, you! You were just in that shop, weren't you?"
I glance around me, and I see a tall guy with brown hair and piercing light blue eyes looking at me. That must've been the guy who gave me a pointer for the card.
"Oh. Yeah, I suppose," I mumble quietly.
His brown hair stuck to his forehead and he had a cheeky smile playing on his lips. His smile was inviting, making me curious.
He opened the door to a taxi in front of him. He gestured with his thumb towards it.
"Do you need a ride? I'm sure we can fit."
There was that cheeky smile again. I glanced down the road and saw that cars were filing up because of the traffic. My gaze flicked over onto my watch. If I went with this guy in the taxi, I might be held up by the traffic. But if I took the train, I would definitely be on time to my nan's 60th birthday.
Then again, those and eyes and his smile just make me curious.
I bite my lip and glanced between the two again.
