Looking at the sheer delight in Geeta's eyes as she took a dramatic, slow-motion bite of her dark chocolate ice cream, Dev was highly amused.
It wouldn't be an understatement to say this was the first time he had witnessed her childlike enthusiasm—she looked like a kid who had just discovered that Santa was, in fact, real.
"Looks like I just found my secret weapon to bribe you."
"Won't work every time. I happen to crave this today."
"Let's cross that bridge when we get there." Dev sipped his juice with the smugness of a man who had just unlocked a cheat code.
Much to Geeta's chagrin, Dev had stubbornly refused to eat ice cream before dinner, citing 'self-discipline' and 'Delhi's freezing weather' as excuses.
"You're really not going to have any?" she asked, narrowing her eyes.
"No."
"You're not human."
"I should be the one saying that. Who eats ice cream in this cold? You're the real psychopath here."
"Weather should never dictate what you eat or crave."
"Oh, so by that logic, the weather also shouldn't dictate sickness, right?"
"Exactly."
"Then how come someone was just sick last week?"
"We're getting late for dinner. Drink your juice quietly and let me enjoy my ice cream in peace."
She threw him a warning glare, but Dev smirked. He had no plans of going down quietly.
"I have a question."
"Which part of enjoying my ice cream in peace did you not understand?"
"But I'm curious."
"And that's my problem because?"
"Because I'm your half-fiancé."
"What fresh nonsense is this now?"
"Well, we're not fully engaged yet, but we're rokafied, so I can't just be a friend either... hence, half-fiancé."
Geeta stared at him, then shook her head in defeat.
"What was your question?"
"Huh?"
"The question, Dev."
"Oh, right."
He straightened.
"Why did you say yes to this marriage?"
Geeta took another bite of her ice cream, letting it melt in her mouth as she thought about it.
"Honestly? You seemed like the perfect scapegoat."
Dev blinked.
"How am I a scapegoat?"
"Think about it, Sherlock. Now hurry up, let's go."
"Huh?"
He glanced at her cup in horror.
"Where did your ice cream go?"
"In my stomach?"
"But how did your teeth not fall off?"
"Because I brush twice a day?"
"Brushing doesn't save them from cold damage!"
"I'm fine considering your tongue hasn't fallen off with all that talking."
