1st POV - Harry
The cool night air wrapped around us as we escaped the chaos of Malfoy Manor. Behind us, the manor’s dark silhouette faded into the distance, its malevolent power still echoing in the air. Every step away from that cursed place was a victory, but the battle was far from over.
I knew we couldn’t keep running forever. Draco needed a safe place—a temporary sanctuary where he could rest, and hide from the relentless threat that hunted him. I scanned the shadowed grounds until I spotted a small, secluded grove beyond the edge of the estate. Thick hedges and gnarled trees formed a natural barrier, offering a quiet refuge away from prying eyes.
“Just a big farther, Draco,” I whispered urgently, pulling him toward the grove. His body was heavy with exhaustion, but he nodded, trusting me implicitly. Every step, every hurried glance over my shoulder, reminded me that danger still lurked behind. We slipped between the trees until the noise of the battle and the threat of the manor’s minions faded into a distant murmur.
Once we reached a clearing, I crouched behind a cluster of ancient oaks. “I know you're tired. This will be your safe place for now,” I murmured. I arranged a few of the heavy cloaks I had with me to camouflage Draco and shield him from prying eyes. I knelt beside him, gently brushing a strand of disheveled hair from his forehead.
“Harry…” Draco began, his voice barely audible in the hush of the grove, eyes filled with both gratitude and lingering fear.
“Rest here. Stay. Do not go back to the manor." I said firmly, though my own heart pounded with a storm of worry and determination. “I have to go back. The Order is gathering, and Voldemort won’t rest until he’s finished with us. I’m going to help them end this—once and for all."
Draco’s eyes searched mine, silent pleading. “You’re sure you can do this?”
I swallowed hard, the weight of our reality pressing down on me. “I have to. I promise you, Draco, I’ll come back for you. But if I don’t—if I don’t make it—know that you'll be safe from now on. I'll have done what I've meant to do my whole life. Even if he takes me with him, he'll be gone.” I pressed his hand, the urgency in my tone unmistakable.
For a long moment, the only sound was the whisper of the wind through the leaves. “I’ll be here,” he finally whispered. “Please, come back to me.”
I gave him a sad smile, though it barely masked the iron resolve burning inside. “I will,” I vowed, though I knew the road ahead was riddled with peril. I was certain I would die. Rising, I gathered the cloaks around him, ensuring he was as hidden as possible. With one last lingering glance, I turned and sprinted back toward the manor and the sounds of distant battle.
Every step I took was heavy with purpose. I needed to rejoin the Order—my allies who had fought alongside me for so long, whose courage was the only thing that could match the darkness Voldemort wielded. The plan was clear: rally our forces, strike at the heart of the enemy’s power, and put an end to the terror that had haunted us all.
Behind me, the grove grew smaller, its sanctuary fading into the background of my determination. I could hear my own ragged breathing mingling with the distant clash of spells. I would do whatever it took—fight until my last breath—if it meant securing a future where Draco and I, and everyone who believed in something better, could finally be free.
With a final glance over my shoulder at the grove—a small beacon of hope in a night consumed by darkness—I tightened my grip on my wand and plunged back into the fray, the promise of Draco’s safety and our shared future lighting the path through the storm of battle.
