Author's Note:

Hello everyone! I do apologize for the wait. Basically, everything they say about the author AO3 curse is real in some form or other. Without getting too much into it, let's just say it's a combination of exams, life, health and Moonton adding Zhuxin, Suyou and Kalea into the lore. It's rather ironic they added those three heroes just as Aamon and co have set sail for Cadia. I strive to make the story as lore accurate as possible, and that includes Zhuxin and her cohorts. Good thing Aamon and co were no longer in Moniyan when Lukas was released rofl.

In any case, I'm rambling. I do hope you guys love this chapter! I had fun writing it.

"Dammit, Tyrasos, for once in your life, stop playing favorites and listen to me!"

Gusion growled in frustration as he tugged on the dragon's reins. Tyrasos continued to circle the ship from above, her scarlet eyes fixed on the deck. From their vantage point above the ship, Gusion couldn't make out much. All he could see was Aamon plummeting onto the ship's deck and landing with a certain finesse only he could pull off.

Overconfident asshole.

His point was proven when, a moment later, the crewmen of the ship surrounded the duke, weapons drawn and pointed towards him. Gusion wasn't that worried, though-physical weapons couldn't really touch the head of House Paxley, anyway.

But still.

Aamon was his brother.

"Les, I need you to hold Tyrasos' reins for me," Gusion called out behind him.

"You want me to-WHAT?!" Lesley screeched.

"I think he wants you to fly the dragon!" Yin answered her.

Lesley was tempted, sorely tempted, to kick both Gusion and Yin off the dragon's back.

Gusion thrust the reins at her just as the dragon dove towards the boat. For once in her reptilian life, Tyrasos seemed to sense Gusion's urgency, and his intent to aid the duke. The dragon plunged towards the ship just as Lesley took the reins.

"You owe me big time, brother," Gusion muttered before unbuckling himself from the dragon's saddle. Without further ado, he leapt off the dragon's back and towards the ship below.

It had happened in less than a heartbeat.

"I've never seen a captain with such shaky sea legs, have you, Valentina?"

The moment the words left Aamon's lips, the captain's eyes widened. A second later, dark power erupted from him in a plume of black shadows. Aamon immediately leapt back. The crew shouted in alarm and amazement as the dark shadows receded to reveal a woman standing at the ship's wheel.

She was beautiful, with jaw length silver hair parted to one side. Her beauty was both aristocratic and ancient, tempered by a haughty air that bespoke her noble upbringing. She glared at Aamon with the same icy blue eyes that the duke possessed.

A shocked murmur rose from the ship's crew as the woman stood before them all, gazing at them with proud arrogance.

Valentina, the great mistress of House Paxley. The first duchess, and the one who had doomed their family to suffer a cursed fate.
