~Peter~
I slide my glasses up on my nose for the second time in maybe ten minutes. I was finally taking my last midterm of the year. It had been almost two years since Gwen's death and the only way to get through it was to distract myself...with tons of school and work.
It wasn't easy, but after awhile I had come to accept her death. It happened for a reason. That reason is something I will never understand. She will forever be apart of me that I can't let go. I wouldn't let her death be nothing but an accident. She had been more than helpful to me that night and was the reason I was alive. I wouldn't dishonor her memory by not letting her rest in peace.
With another motion of my pencil I had finished the test. Sighing I felt pleased with my work. And I was extremely excited to be done with this term of school. It would be a good break of more work and saving the little world of New York City. There hadn't been anything too exciting lately to do. I had saved a bank from another robbery, helped a neighbor find their missing child and tipped the police off on a future threat made by the hobos of Central Park. Other than that, I worked my day job at the newspaper taking photos and getting money to go do undercover stuff.
The class bell sounded and people began shuffling out of the room, handing their tests in as they walked out. I did the same and then made my way out to my car. Aunt Mae had insisted. She didn't like me walking everywhere... What she didn't know is that I usually didn't walk- I swing from building to building... Which is much faster and way more exhilarating- but to make her happy I had obliged and bought the little Outback.
On the way to my car I wasn't paying attention- in a daze I was staring at the ground. In doing this I had not seen another person coming at me. She didn't see me either and we ran into each other. In a smooth motion I caught her almost falling form in my arms. I set her upright on her feet- apologizing profusely.
"I'm sorry, so sorry. That was stupid of me." Looking up from picking up her fallen book, the girl standing before me isn't what I had expected. She tucks soft, dark brown hair behind her ear, smiling shyly.
"Don't worry about it. I wasn't looking where I was walking so it's partly my fault..." She wipes underneath her right eye- she looked like she had been crying. I stuffed my hands in my pockets and gave her a warm smile."So, it was nice meeting you." I grin, laughing lightly.
She smiles again," I'm Kacie. "
"Peter." I offer in return.
"I... Should get to class." She giggles, blushing after I had been staring for longer than I should have.
"Right... See you around then, maybe." I waved awkwardly and smiled.
She straightened her floral scarf and nodded, "see you around next term, maybe."
