Chapter 3: Apology not accepted

Laura's POV//

I actually liked California! Besides the whole "Ross Lynch trying to ruin my life" part, at least. I made A LOT of friends. Seriously, I was pretty popular. My friends included Rydel Lynch, Maia Mitchell, Raini Rodriguez, Calum Worthy, and Allison Tyler. Amber and I still got in touch, of course, and she visits me during Winter break. I'm heading to lunch right now with Maia since we had science together. During first period this morning, Ross poured boiling hot water on Maia and I because we were learning how to cook in Home Ec. We had to miss second period to go home and change!! IT WAS ALL HIS FAULT!

Flashback
No one's POV

Maia and Laura walk in to the Home Ec. classroom laughing at a video on Maia's tablet. Ross has a smirk plastered on his face because they will trip over a fishing line and he will pour boiling water on them.

Maia: OMG! this video of a baby panda bear doing gymnastics is HILARIOUS
Laura: I know right! HAHAHA

(they trip over fishing line)

Maia and Laura: AH!

(Ross dumps a huge bucket of water on them)
The whole class starts laughing at them and they storm off to the next classroom to get a teacher.

Maia: uh oh
Laura: what?
Maia: Ross...
Laura: let's just take the longer way and stop at my locker first
Maia: sounds good!

We started heading the opposite direction, but Ross started chasing us! Ugh, can I ever catch a break from that kid?

Ross: MAIA, LAURA!! Wait!!!
Laura: What is he doing?
Maia: What should we do?

Before we go start running, he already caught up to us.

Ross: Um... (scratches back of neck)
Laura: well? what do YOU want? Look, I don't have time for you and your nonsense today. Maia and I just want to get to lunch. Can't my friends and I just LIVE without you making fun of us for ONE day?!?
Ross: Geez, I only said 'um'
Laura: Yeah and that's enough of you for a day
Ross: Okay, look Laura and Maia, I get that I was rude to you guys before but I just want to say sorry.
Maia: Too bad Ross, you shouldn't have dated Ashley and changed into what you are now! Come on Laura, he's not worth our time.
Laura: yeah, let's go.
Ross: Bu-But Please just hear me out.
Maia: Ross, Laura and I don't NEED an explanation. You changed. What ever happened to that sweet and innocent boy who never pulled a prank and never hated anyone? He's gone. When we were best friends I TOLD you Ashley would change you. You were too busy making out with her to realize how rude you were getting.

All of a sudden Maia starts to tear up and she pulled up her sleeve and showed Ross something.

Maia: Look what you did to me, Ross!

I walked over next to Ross so I could see what it was. I couldn't believe it, it was a scar.

Maia: I knew Ashley hated me because you and I were so close. I never thought YOU- out of all people- would be the one to hurt me. So enough of your apologies, Laura and I are leaving.

Then, Maia took hooked her arm into mine and we walked to lunch. We sat down at our usual table, but the others weren't there yet.

Laura: Maia?
Maia: Yeah Laur?
Laura: Who's Ashley?

I took my thumbs and wiped away Maia's tears.

Maia: Ok so, last year Ross and I were best friends. We had been best friends since grade school. We made a pact to never replace each other. Until Ashley Smith moved here. She stole Ross's heart and they started dating. Ashley was a bad girl, you could say. She stole things, broke into houses, vandalized, and more but Ross didn't care. He liked her because he knew she was good on the inside. I knew she was a bad influence. After a couple months of dating, Ross started changing. He would barely talk to me and when he did, he would just insult me. I knew that Ashley was telling him to say that. He was just too mesmerized by her body. One day, I came over to his house to give him my notes because him and Ashley skipped school. They were making out on the couch and I tapped Ross on the shoulder to give him the notes. He looked annoyed when I interrupted their make out session and I just exploded. I lost it and started yelling him for having such a poor attitude towards me. He also got mad and he went to his kitchen and got a knife. He wanted to kill me, Laura. I used my arm to defend my face and ran out of that house as quick as I could. That's how I got that scar. Ashley moved away a little before you moved here. Ross picked on you because he figured that you replaced her. Ross never changed back into his old self. Believe me, I tried to be friends with him again even though he tried to murder me but he just hated me all of a sudden and I never knew why.
Laura: Oh my god Maia, I'm so happy you didn't get killed.
Ross: (sighs) me too...
