Life. That one word seems so little, till you know that it's precious. As precious as a baby bird flies for the first time. The mother bird doesn't know if the bird will fly or just fall to the ground and shatter, but feels hope.
I lay on my bed with eyes filled with water and trace my hand lazily along the lace flowers on the skirt of my bed. I wait anxiously as my parents talk outside my bedroom door. I hear them whisper back and forth. Their voices hold of sorrow and grieve but something still holds back the anger, hope.
*FLASH BACK*
"Come on Maris!!! It's time to go to the doctors!!!" I hear my Mom calling desperately wanting me to hurry down the staircase. I run out of the bathroom and pull on a pair of mint converse and rush out the door of my house.
I wonder what the cure is to this sickness is? I've had it for 3 1/2 months already!
Suddenly, we pull up to the doctors office. As we take our seats in the waiting room, my Mom signs the forms out on the clear plastic clipboard which lays above her knees. I tap my fingers together nervously, because we have no idea what to expect.
After about 10-15 minutes waiting in the soft leather gray chairs, a doctor slides open the door and calmly says, "Maris Parker?"
I slip my feet gently back on the old beaten up gray tile and push my body out of the chair. Once we reach the room where the doctor will tell us the information of what the diagnosis is. I plant my feet on the soft white carpet and fall onto a hard navy blue chair. My Mom and I wait desperate and impatiently in the room for the doctor to arrive.A few deadly silent moments later, the doctor arrives. He has brown pulled back rich brown hair, olive skin, and mild and soothing brown eyes. When he starts to speak a shiver runs through my spine making my teeth jitter.
" Hello Mrs. and Ms. Parker. I am Doctor Theodore Stanley." The calm man says as we nod. "What I am about to tell you two, will take a lot of courage to hear. So I would like to say before hand that I wish your family good luck." He says raising his eyebrows slightly.
"We just got the blood tests and read that Maris is suffering under Leukemia." I freeze not willing or able to breathe. I think, "What did I ever do to deserve this?!!!" Then I take in the words again, "I have cancer."
My eyes swell up pink with tears and I burst out crying.*END OF FLASHBACK*
