My feet pound against the rockiness of the black pavement.
Faster, faster!
My shallow breath quickens as I move my legs faster through the darkness of the night. Suddenly I hear a loud rip tear through the silence. My shirt got caught on a branch of a bush while I ran past a bundle of shrubbery. I curse quietly to myself as the wind picks up and stings my bare skin.
A cackle if laughter dances in the air and I glance behind me. I will my feet to go farther as the laughing catches up to me. I veer to the left and run into more trees and bushes. There sharp leaves and branches scrap my arms and tear holes into my clothing. I close my eyes as a tear threatens to drip from my eye. I'm not sure if its because of the pain if the cuts or the cool wind blowing in my face.
Just then a gust if wind from above knocks me down onto my knees. I gasp and look up to see a large pair if wings, resembling the ones of a hawk, swoop down on me. The creature raises its sharp talons to me as it takes a hold of my back. I cry out in pain as the claws sink into my skin. The monster then starts to ascend into the sky. I then start to grab for the nearest object my arms could reach. My hands meet a tree branch and I hold on for dear life. The bird like beast caws in annoyance before loosening its hold on me.
I take the first chance I get to swing around and kick the bird-woman in the face- I mean beak. She then flys back and screeches in pain. I drop down from the tree and take if running again.
This time I take a right and nearly run into another tree before tripping and skinning my knees on the harsh road. I jump up and survey the damage as I sprint down the road. The rocks and gravel left two fresh holes in the fronts of my light wash pants. The crying of the woman comes up behind me again.
Gosh, this thing just doesn't know when to quit does it?!
I leap up onto my aching feet and run as fast as a person who had been running for the past, what seems like hours, could. I can practically feel the soles of my shoes disintegrating. Just ahead of me I can see the red paint of a farmhouse and the smell of strawberries wafts through the summer air.
Great, now I can get help!
I take a short cut through the grass and just as I was about to reach the fates- a sharp pain shoots up my leg.
"Owch!"
"Now die half-blood, die!" The she- bird screams as she tightly clutches my leg in her claws.
Blood drips down my leg to my feet then makes a small pool of blood into the dirt. I look in front of me and grab a large stick and whack the monster across the face. She lets me go once again as she curses me. I scramble to get up and half limp, half run to what seemed to be the property line of the farm. I took a misstep and crumbled to the ground. I dart my head back and forth, my eyes searching for my attacker. There she was, right in front of me.
Why isn't it getting me?
She tried to fly through the gates but was stopped by what seemed an invisible forcefield. The scene reminded me of a bird hitting the glass of a window. The thought almost made me laugh. After multiple tries if gaining entrance into the farmland the thing croaked in defeat then flew off.
I sighed in relief. Then rolled over onto my back to let my breath catch up with the rest of me.
What in the world was that? What did she want? Why me?
I slowly tried to stand up. I leaned up against a tree for support. I was still panting then groaned at the sight of my wounds. Then I came to my senses.
I need to get help. Call the police.
I took a few steps forward and started to feel dizzy.
Ugh... How much blood gave I lost? Should I go to a hospital or something?
I started to make my way to the house but my eyes were drooping and my body ached of exhaustion. My legs gave way and my body hit the soft green grass. The wind stung my injuries but I didn't care. I was just so dang tired. My eyelids slowly closed, and the last thing I saw before drifting off into a peaceful slumber, was the sun peaking over the hillside.
