PLEASE EXCUSE THE SPELLING/GRAMMER MISTAKES. NOT EDITED.

When my older brother and I got home we were greeted with a 'For Sale' sign in front of our house. Talk about high school sucks. "What the hell?" he said

I ran up to the house where a moving truck was waiting at the garage door. I burst through the front door and yelled, "Mom!" she came out of the kitchen in an apron and a frown.

"Mom what's going on?"

Parker came through the front door and waited for her answer.

"Kids, you know how things have been since your dad left. We can't keep the house or we will go bankrupt. Plus we don't need this house anymore; it's so big."

"Mom, what are you talking about?"

"You two are fifteen so you will understand that we need help. My friend Nancy offered to take us in and let us live with her for a while. I want you guys on your best behavior when we get there."

"So we don't get any say in this at all?"

"Don't worry. Nancy's kids are about your age so that should help with the changes. We already packed your rooms so we are ready to go as soon as you two are in the car."

"Where are we moving?" asked Parker

"Oregon. Just outside of Rainier. We will be able to go swimming in the Columbia River every day if we want. Doesn't that sound fun?"

"Sure I guess. I'm going to go call my friends and say goodbye." I walked in a daze to my now empty room. I flipped out my phone and called every one of them. Every one of us cried.

Parker stepped into my room half an hour later. "Come on, Paige. Mom says we gotta go."

I ran, crying into his arms.

"Don't worry, sis. We will get through this, just you wait. Mom says we will Love it there."

"You don't believe her. Neither do I. What if Nancy's kids don't like us?"

"Paige! You are fifteen. Don't act like an eight year old. You know I will always be there for you. Come on."

"Thanks, P-."

"Paige! Parker! Come on! Time to go!" shouted my mom.

Parker released me and crossed his fingers. I crossed mine too and followed him out to the van.

Two hours later we were pulling into a driveway on the south side of Rainier.

The driveway was a hundred yards long and let up to a good sized grey house. Nancy was waiting outside with three kids next to her. The boy looked to be sixteen or seventeen and the girl looked to be fifteen.

Another younger girl probably around seven was sitting at their feet. Nancy and the little girl waved as we pulled up the driveway. The other two just looked curious.

Mom jumped out of the car and ran to Nancy. I watched her hug Nancy and start talking wildly. Parker got out and went to the other kids. I stayed in the car and hunkered down into my seat so they couldn't see me.

Did I mention I'm kinda shy? I waited five minutes and hoped they would forget about me. I leaned against my door and pulled out the book I had been reading.

I was also a nerd. Braces and glasses. The whole deal.

Then my door opened and I tumbled out backwards. "Whaaaaaaa!" I shouted but then two pairs of arms caught me. Parker and the boy helped me out of the car and put me on my feet. Up close the boy was kind of... hot? "Hi." He said

"Oh um..." I pushed my glasses up onto my nose and blushed. I held onto Parkers arm like my life depended on it. "Um I'm uh I'm..." I kept my eyes on my feet.

"Will, this is my sister Paige. She is extremely shy and will do this whenever she meets anyone." Parker gestured at my embarrassing stuttering.

I elbowed him in the ribs.

"What? It's true." He said, laughing

The two girls were watching this whole thing with smiles on their faces. The older one stepped forward. "Hi. I'm Nicole. This is my little sister, Savanna. Welcome to our home... Now let's cut the formal crap. Come on. I'll show you your room!" she grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the house.

It really didn't look that big, probably three bedrooms but once inside I realized that this house was more than it appeared. It had a whole floor UNDERGROUND. All the bedrooms were down here except for two, (my moms and Nancy's) along with a recreation room, a kitchen and a swim pool.

She gave me a tour of the downstairs and then brought me back to my room. It was different shades of blues and green paint with hardwood floor that looked like sand. A blue seashell with a round mattress inside was my bed. "Your mom told us you like the ocean." Nicole explained "I hope she was right."

"Yes. I love the ocean. I went swimming all the time in California." I turned around to her. "Thank you so much!" I threw my arms around her.

She laughed. "Come on. Let's see what the boys are doing."

So I followed her upstairs and found them playing hoops at an old basketball hoop nailed to the garage door. Savanna was off to the side watching intently. I smiled and ran up to Parker, jumping on his back. "Hey!" he fell over backward and landed on his butt. I jumped up from the ground laughing and stole the ball from Will who was gaping at him.

He tried, and failed to get it back but I started running. "Hey!" he laughed

He and Parker started chasing me around the house but I was faster than them.

I laughed with pure joy. I hadn't been this happy for so long. I ran into the woods at the side of their property and put it in four wheel drive. This was so fun. I ran through the woods all the time at home. Home... where I grew up. I'll never see it again.

I stopped running and looked around. I couldn't hear the boys behind me anymore and I realized I didn't know what direction I had come from. I spun around once but that just made me more lost. Lost. Alone in the woods and lost. And it was getting dark.
