I do not own the song Tonight Tonight, or the lyrics written in this chapter.

I never wanted to be a princess, on kindergarten graduation when they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, it was never princess. It was ballerina.
I never wanted to live in a castle with people bowing at me feet, I wanted to live in a cute house in a nice neighborhood.
I never wanted to marry a prince charming, I just wanted someone who loved me.
I never wanted to be a princess...

"Just don't stop, let's keep the beat pumpin'. Keep the beat up, let's drop the beat down. It's my party dance if I want to, We can get crazy let it all out. Just don't stop, let's keep the beat pumpin'. Keep the beat up, let's drop the beat down. It's my party, dance if I want to, we can crazy let it all out. It's you and me and we're runnin' this town. It's me and you and we're shakin' the ground. And ain't nobody gonna tell us to go cause this is our show. Everybody, woah, come on. Ohh, all you animals. Woah, let me hear you now, ohh. Tonight, tonight there's a party on the rooftop, top of the world. Tonight, tonight and we're dancin' on the edge of the Hollywood sign."
I groaned at my phone as the repetitive ring tone played itself over, and over, and over again. I told myself I was going to ignore it and I did. So after two minutes of hiding my head under my pillow, whoever was calling me hung up.
I sighed and put my head on top of my pillow again. Peace and quiet. Fifteen minutes later, I was on the the very edge of unconsciousness; I could almost see sleep. Well, I could if that were possible.
My eyes jolted open and I groaned. Again. I stuck my arm out of it's warm spot of my comforter, and started searching for my phone that was on the night stand. Once I felt the cool metal under my hand, I grabbed my phone, pressed talk, and held it to my ear.
"What?" I said into my phone annoyed, half muffled from my face being almost buried in my pillow.
"Well, someone certainly didn't wake up on the right side of the bed." My best friend Janie said on the other side of the phone.
"I didn't 'wake' up, I was woken up. By you." I said with my eyes still closed.
"Fine, maybe I won't say happy birthday like I was going to and just go about today like it's any other, and not my best friends sixteenth birthday." She said pretending to be offended.
"What time are you coming over?" I asked, rubbing my eyes trying to get the sleep out of them.
"Noonish." She said, quickly getting over the last subject.
"Okay, I'll see you then." I said sitting up.
"Kay, bye Belle. Happy Birthday." She said.
"Thanks, Janie. Bye" I said hanging up.
I checked the time, it was already 10:17 A.M.
I put my phone back on the night stand and got out of bed. I got dressed and slowly walked downstairs.
When I got into the kitchen, mom and dad weren't there. So, I was the first one up.
I went into the pantry and got out the box of Cocoa Pebbles, my favorite cereal in the entire world besides Fruity Pebbles. Once I poured the cereal and milk in my bowl and got a spoon, I sat down and started eating.
"Happy Birthday!" My parents yelled in unison.
I didn't hear them come in over the loud crunching of my cereal, so when they came in and yelled, I started choking on my cereal. A couple of minutes later when my coughing fit was over, I looked at them.
"Thanks, mom. Thanks, dad." I said smiling.
"So, how does it feel to be sixteen?" Mom asked, pouring herself some coffee.
"I'm not sixteen yet," I said checking the clock on the wall, "I still have a couple of hours."
"Well that's good, she certainly hasn't changed." Dad said smirking as he walked into the living room with his coffee.
"Is Janie coming over?" Mom asked.
"Yeah, she coming over in forty-five minutes." I said putting my empty bowl in the sink and leaning against the counter.
She turned to me and took and envelope out of her robe pocket and handed it to me, "Happy Birthday, Belle. That's your first present from your father and I. You get the next one later."
I took the envelope and opened it. Inside, there was two hundred dollars and a gift certificate for one free game of bowling.
"Oh my gosh, thank you so much!" I said hugging her, she knew I loved bowling. Even if I wasn't great at it.
"Your using that certificate today with Janie. Now go thank your father." She said smiling.
I ran out of the kitchen and into the connecting living room and right over to dad.
"Thank you daddy." I said giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"Your very welcome, Belle." He said hugging me back and then continuing to watch the news.
I ran back up the stairs and into my room. I put the money in my wallet, put my wallet in my purse, and grabbed my phone. I was ready.
About half an hour later, my bedroom door burst open and Janie ran in.
"Are you ready for bowling and shopping galoure!?" She asked looking at me, clearly ecstatic.
"Absolutely!" I yelled.
We both ran downstairs and grabbed our coats.
"Bye mom, bye dad!" I yelled, knowing they would hear me.
"Bye Mr. and Mrs. DeLemoure!" Janie yelled.
"Bye girls, have fun!" My mom yelled back.
"But not too much fun!" My dad yelled right after.
Janie and I laughed and ran out to the car. Janie had gotten her liscence a few months before, and wasn't a bad driver. Once I climbed into her red convertible, she started the car and started driving to the mall.
"This is going to be the best birthday ever!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
Or was it?

Turning 16
HumorFor most girls turning 16 means a big party, a drivers license, maybe even a car. But for Belle DeLemoure, it means learning she's the heir to the throne of a place she's never even heard of, Grovenshire.
