Chapter 1: Oliver Twist
"Whenever I looked at her, Oliver came to my mind instantly. Not any Oliver, but Charles Dicken's Oliver Twist. I never was and am sure why, but probably because her life was a clear connection to it."
The black car would change her life and little did she know that.
Stealing.Pickpocketing.Lying. That was how she had been living for the past three years of her life. Now the same ten year old girl was running across the streets of Winchester. The rain fell from the skies, making everything in contact with it wet and staining them with natures song of tears. But those were the least of her worries. The constant sign of hunger remained her how it had been two days since she had last eaten anything.
Neither did he have anything to eat now did she have any money on her. just as she was crossing the broad road, she stumbled upon one of the puddles there instantly falling on her hands and knees which made a hard, painful contact with the ground.
'I'm all wet and dirty now.' She thought getting up slowly.
Just by an inch or so, a car stopped, screeching, in front of her catching her off-guard. Just a fraction of a second had got her not killed.
The driver inside was breathing hard. All sorts of thoughts, mainly bad ones were running through his mind. 'Is the girl alright?' the man, Mr.Quillish thought taking his umbrella to go out. He opened the car door and went out a black umbrella over his head.
That girl was in the state of utter shock and fright. Hardly a minute ago was she run down by a black car. "Are you alright?" the man asked his umbrella now shielding the rains of above from hitting her. She nodded timidly and looked up to the tall, white haired man. In only a glimpse of him did she know he was rich. 'Should I...?' The question arose in her mind as the tall man looked at her and smiled. 'The purse... probably the back pocket.' She thought then smiled back at the man. Without the man even noticing, she slyly slipped her hand into her pocket. From there she took out, clutched in her hand, marbles.
"I hope you are not hurt anywhere, little one?" he asks a bit of concern in his voice.
She nods again then throws one marble towards the car. Unknown to Mr. Wammy, in the two seconds time he used to look at what the sound was, his purse was gone.
The little girl had already hidden it in the sleeves of her clothes. The man looked back to her then smiled kindly. "You must be hungry." He said his hand reaching to his back pocket to take his purse out. But to his astonishment it was not there! 'It can't be lost.' He thought clearly remembering putting his purse inside his pocket after buying Lawliet some sweets. Never for once did he doubt the little girl that stood in front of him of stealing. He did not know what he could do for her at the moment. He looked at her once more then smiled. "Little one, would you like to live in a house?" he asked kneeling to her level. She tilted her head a little confused by his words. She just nodded not know the real meaning of those words.
"A house?" she asked looking at his her eyes glistening with a light of curiosity. He nodded, "Yes. A place where you can stay, study and of course play. A place you can call home." He kept a hand on her head. She gulped hard trying to swallow the lump that had formed in her throat. That of course, was guilt. "Mister, I'm sorry, but I don't deserve your offer." She says looking down to her feet. Mr. Wammy looked at her a little puzzled. She slips his purse from her sleeve then hands it to him her hands shaking slightly. He looks at her then the purse.
"How did you steal it?" he asked. "When you looked away." She replied still looking down. 'But that is quite impossible.' He thought ten looked at her again. 'That is swift. She could...' he let go of his thoughts the smiled at the girl again. "Let it be little one." He said the stood up slowly his hand falling down from her head. "I'll ask you again." She looked up at him. "Will you live with us?" She didn't need any more words for the answer Mr. Wammy wanted to hear.
She simply agreed with a slight nod.
*5 years later*
Wammy's House. An orphanage to train and educate the gifted minds. The most famous people come from there and specially the top five students.
Lawliet or better known as 'Detective L' all around the world, or rather the eccentric genius and an international private detective. (Not forgetting to mention number one in the world.) L eats nothing except sweet things or that is what everyone who knows him says. He sits in one of the most peculiar way, partly because old habits die hard and partly as he belives sitting in that way boosts up his thinking capacity.
Second in number, we have Nate Rivers or better known by his alias 'Near' or 'N'. He is similar to L in many ways, and the best example would be that of the way he sits. Most of the time he is seen solving puzzles, playing with his toys and reading. He is the most silent in this group and hardly shows any kind of emotion. He sometimes helps L with his cases but is seen mostly paired up with Mello for different cases.
Mikhail Keehl, or better known as Mello is the third Wammy's Boy. If given a chance, Mello can get the whole mafia world under him, but of course he is after Near as L's successor. Unlike his partner Near, Mello is always the quick one to act jumping to hasty and sometimes wrong decisions. Though the hot head of the group, he is an extremely good detective. And well, his whole world revolves around chocolate.
(A/N: *chomp* Chocolate...)
Last of the boys of the Wammy's House is Matt. His real name is Mail (pronounced Miles) Jeevas and he is the third in line to become the successor of L. His forte lies mainly in technology, and had he used his brains he could have hacked the Swiss Bank and become the riches man to walk the face of this Earth (Just a suggestion!). But he is just a boy who loves playing videogames and smokes quite a lot not giving a damn about the world.
Finally, introducing the only girl in this group, (Y/N). Looking at her anyone would believe she is just an ordinary girl, but well, they say 'Don't judge a book by its cover.' Among the detectives, she is the most 'unique' one. She could be called a thief or a con man, who the world known as Robin. Well, she can be called a girl who is good in delusions and stealing. The most convincing liar who ever walked the face of the earth , she helps L and the others in different cases. Her deduction skills are exceptional as well making her the only girl in this group.
((So, yeah. I know its shit! Apologies if I got anything wrong as this is my first Death Note fanfiction! Tell me if you liked it or absolutely hated it!! I am open to criticism and hate!))
