"What can I do?" I said to Dr. Josephs. He thought for a moment or two, then simply shrugged.
"You're a nice kid, Leo. And I know you really loved this girl. Obviously you're gonna have to go to court to prove yourself innocent and-"
"Court?" I asked. "For what?!"
"Permanently injuring another person." He told me. I was shocked I didn't realize this before, I was so caught up in Victoria's amnesia that I didn't even think what would happen to me. Oh God.
"Okay," I said, slowly. "And what do I do about Victoria?"
The doctor sighed. "You're just gonna have to pretend you're a stranger. Ask her out on a date or something. Maybe you can rebuild the relationship." He gave me a sympathetic look and walked away.
"Shit!" I said out loud, when I realized I had given Victoria that newspaper!
"Sir, could you keep your voice down please." A nurse said. I apologized and sat down in the reception area. I can't believe I would do that... It must have terrified her! I mean, she thinks it's, what- 1995? And I gave her a newspaper saying 1999, that had a picture of us on the front, she must be so confused. But what could I say to her? How can I explain this?!
I took a deep breath and slid open the curtain sectioning off her bed from everyone else's. "Hey!" I said with a smile.
"Hey, stranger!" She giggled. "Where have you been all day?"
"Oh, I don't know. Just around really." I said.
"Ah, well I've been really lonely." She laughed sadly.
"Well, I'm here now." I smiled.
"So, about that newspaper." She said, sitting up in her bed. God, I wish she never mentioned that. I raised my eyebrows. "What is it, some kind of joke or something?"
I was stuck for words. I honestly didn't know how I could explain it, or myself, or what the fuck she's even doing here. I just had to come right out with the truth. I mean, there's no point hiding it from here, it would be just as much of a shock now as it would in a week."Victoria, I have to tell you something. And it's gonna be hard to understand." I said, reaching out for her hand. This time she let me hold it.
"What is it?"
"You have amnesia. The year is 1999, you are 21 years old, you are a model, and I am your fiancé." I explained. She looked confused, then burst out laughing. "What?" I asked, sort of angry.
"You- tried to tell me- that it's 1999!" She said between breaths, then continued laughing.
"Victoria I'm serious. Ask anyone." I said, seriously.
"Of course..." She chuckled.
"That's it, come with me." I said grabbing her wrist and unconnecting her drip. "Are you allowed outside?"
"With the hospital's permission," I said.
*Vic's pov*
He took me into his red Cadillac and started the engine. I was sort of frightened, I mean, I didn't know this man! I didn't know why I was letting him take me places, I guess I trusted him. Come on, he has stayed with me in hospital for ages.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Into the city." He replied.
"Why?"
"I need to prove this to you." He said, keeping his eyes on the road. I raised an eyebrow. "You know how I told you that I was- you know, world famous...?" He trailed off. It was obvious that he was lying, otherwise he wouldn't get so nervous and insecure when he said that stuff. He opened his car door and we started walking down the street. It was only a matter of seconds before a group of teenage girls came running up to him, asking for autographs and photographs. This confused me, why would he be famous? A few moments after we shooed the group of girls away, a huddle of paparazzi ran up, snapping pictures of me and Leo.
"Mr DiCaprio, has Victoria finally forgiven you?" One asked.
"Leonardo, are you working on any new movies?" Another yelled.
Then, one came towards me. "Miss Hutchingson, why is it that we haven't seen you and Leonardo together for so long?" I didn't know what to say. I was so confused, I don't know what to think. My head felt like it was about to explode and my vision became fuzzy. Everything was spinning.
"I-" I tried. "I don't know-" and everything went black.*leo's pov*
"You really shouldn't have done that, Mr DiCaprio." The doctor informed me.
"Don't you think I know that? She fainted for God's sake... I didn't think it would have such an impact on her." I said. It was weird, actually. She used to be a lot stronger than this.
I left Dr Josephs' office and made my way down the halls to where Victoria was staying. "Hey," I said as I poked my head round the curtains. She huffed in reply, and sat up in her bed. "How are you feeling?" I asked.
"This is crazy..." She sighed. "This is all fucking crazy and I don't know what to do with myself! I don't know what's real and what's not!"
"I know..." I said, sympathetically. "I know it can be confusing but-"
"No, you don't know." She interrupted.
"Victoria, I know you're confused. But you have to try and accept that you've had an accident, you have amnesia. You can't keep brushing it away like a fly that is posing you off." I said, holding her hand. "Now, I'm gonna help you rebuild your life. Before the accident, we were engaged. The wedding was supposed to happen 2 months ago..." There were tears collecting in the bottom of her eyes.
"But I don't know you," she croaked. "You seem lovely and you're very handsome but... I don't know you." She sniffed back the tears.
"That's okay, I understand. If you want, we can start new?" I offered.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"Hi, I'm Leonardo DiCaprio." I said with a smile, offering my hand to shake. "I'm 25 and I'm a Scorpio."
She laughed. "I'm Victoria Hutchingson." She said, shaking my hand. "I'm..."
"21," I reminded her.
"21," she laughed. "And I'm a Gemini."
I took a deep breath. "Will you go on a first date with me?" I hoped and prayed that she would say yes. I couldn't let this wonderful thing slip out of my life again.
She smiled. "Sure."
