Have you seen the hashtag "Team dark skin" or "Team Light skin"? I have and it's probably one of the dumbest and most ignorant things I've seen in my short life.
How do we,the black race, expect discrimination against our race to end when we're over here embracing it and dividing ourselves into teams based on how dark we are. How does that make any sense?

If a white person were to tell us we belong on "Team Dark" skin or "Team light skin" we would scream "That's racist!" or be offended, but if we do it to ourselves that's just A-okay right, because as long as we're the ones being racist everything is fine. I understand this all started in more of a joking manner and wasn't really that serious, but it's getting out of hand.

You have some dark skin girls trying to appear lighter as if that makes them more beautiful and you have some light skin girls walking around thinking they are better than everyone else. We need to stop finding ways to make people feel lesser of themselves and find ways to make sure we all know that we are beautiful. The hair texture you were given is beautiful, the skin tone you were given is beautiful, the eye color you have? That's beautiful too.

I know this may seem as if I'm overreacting, but when you see someone degrade themselves because their own race has decided to divide them based on their skin tone, you realize things need to be stopped.

As a mixed girl I've never been able to put myself on either side. I'm not light skin, but I'm not dark skin. At times it felt like my race was rejecting me because I couldn't fit on either team. I've also seen girls fight so hard to be on one side when in reality they are already beautiful and don't need to be on either side to validate that fact.

It doesn't matter how light or dark you are, if you're black then the fact is you are black. You can't change that and I hope you wouldn't want. Being dark is not something you should be ashamed of. Being light is not something you should boast about or want others to feel envious of. We all need to get over ourselves and realize skin complexion does not define beauty.

I like my skin tone it's not light nor is it dark. I like my hair texture it's not straight nor is it extremely curly. I like my eye color it's not blue, green, grey,or any of those colors, it's dark brown. Like really dark brown and I still love my eyes. I like being black. My race is black and I love that.

I am a member of #Team Black skin and I'm happy about that.
