Rowan had truly loved Lake. He still did, but with their addictions putting so much strain on their relationship, it was falling apart at the seams.
Lake was addicted to heroin. Rowan was addicted to cutting.
They triggered each other endlessly. Lake would scream at Rowan when she went through periods of withdrawal. She would tell him that she was the victim and that he deserved death. Then, when Lake became aware again, she'd see the freshly dried blood stains on their dirty bathroom floor and go off with her friends again.
It was truly an endless, self destructing cycle.
