Chapter 1
Melanie Anderson entered her walk in closet for what seemed like the hundredth time. Not one outfit seemed good enough for this day. A day that meant absolutely everything to her and the day that majority of her friends already passed. Her sweet sixteen birthday party.
"What about this?" She stepped out of her closet in a red above the knee flare dress with no straps. Along with them were a pair of opened toe red heels.
"It's so... Red" her best friend Cassie replied after long consideration.
Throwing off her shoes, she slumped onto her bed face down with a loud sigh. Part was from frustration and other was exhaustion. That did happen when you spent 5 hours dress hunting for an outfit.
"I don't know what to do anymore Cas. I mean you looked so pretty on your sweet sixteen. I'm just going to be... Plain" she turned to face her best friend who was now inside her closet moving around hangers and shoe boxes.
"This closet is way too crowded. Maybe you just need to go shopping for something new" that was it! Shopping! How come she didn't think of that?
"Maybe your right! I mean daddy left his credit card with me while he went away on business" they both shared a devilish grin.
"Then it's settled! Tomorrow we'll just go look in Macy's or something" Melanie stood up off her bed and began to undo her dress.
"Did you send out all the invitations? I wouldn't want anybody missing out!" Like every other party Melanie held, this one was the talk of Northwood Charter and she expected half the school to show up to her party that was being held in her three story home.
"Of course! That's the reason we're going through all this hassle" after changing back into her sweats and wife beater that read 'Nobody Compares To This Princess', she sat at her MacBook Pro and began to log into her Facebook.
"You know my birthday marks 4 months with Jason?" She squealed with delight as she went onto her page. 38 messages, 266 notifications and 43 friend request.
"You mentioned that like ten times already" Cassie reminded her with a roll of her eyes.
"I know! But I'm just so excited! April 22 the-
"Day a witch was born" Cassie went on to laugh at her own joke despite the fact that Melanie glared at her like she wanted to kill her.
"Yeah whatever. Don't be a hater!" They sat in silence until Melanie's iPhone rang on her bed. It was his ringtone. She jumped up and ran over to pick up her phone.
"Hello?" She waited for the voice that usually had no problem making her day everyday.
"Hey babe. Found your ridiculous outfit yet?" She giggled which let Cassie know she was on the phone with him. She simply rolled her eyes.
"Not yet. Nothing seems right" sitting down on her bed she began to twirl a piece of her hair.
"Everything you wear makes you look good anyway" her face felt hot with the amount of blushing she had on.
"You always say that. April 22 is coming..." She waited.
"Your birthday" she waited. He couldn't have forgotten.
"Yes and..." The line was completely quiet. You could hear a pin drop on his end.
"You already know I got your gift" she couldn't believe it. He truly forgot their anniversary.
"Y-yea I know" then came her nervous stutter. A day that she planned on getting showered with gifts and kisses and chocolates and flowers and.... Everything. He just forgot like it was nothing.
