PROLOGUE
I looked at my suitcase. I was going back. I couldn't believe that I was going back to the place that I promised my self years ago, I wouldn't go back to. I sighed and sat on my bed. I wasn't going to change my mind now and besides, I had already bought the airplane ticket which would be hard to return.
The photo on the beside table caught my attention. It was taken on the doorstep of our old house. It was when I was happy. You could tell from the smile plastered on our faces. I was hugging my mum while my dad held me and my older brother stood proudly by his side. I haven't seen my brother in years but there's no point in being upset about it now. The younger me looked so happy, like no bad news could ruin her happiness. How naive. I was a little girl who's life went from good to bad. Luckily I had someone who helped me get through the hard times but that's a whole different story.
There were only a few hours before I had to be at the airport. I got up and grabbed my car keys, suitcase and carry on. I made sure I had everything and I turned the light of. I'll come back in about a week to check on the house and visit friends. I locked the door and walked up to my car. I put my suitcase in the boot and walked to the driver's side. I pulled out my phone and went onto my contacts.
I scrolled down the list on til I came to the name I wanted. She was an old friend who I had kept in contact while I lived here. I pressed on the message button and wrote, " I'll be home soon."
Turning around, I looked at my now old house. Many memories soon to be left behind but new ones to be made. I got in the the car and was about to drive when my phone buzzed. I took it out of my pocket and smiled.
"Finally, took you long enough." Was her genius reply.
Her very predictable response made me laugh, almost forgetting what was ahead of me. I have a good feeling about this. I don't know how it will turn out and only future will tell.
I put my phone back in my pocket and drove the airport with high hopes of a good future.
