As I cruise along on my Hover Board, I catch sight of my best friend waiting for the Hover-Craft-Bus-Thing. "Hey Jasper!" I hop off and run over to him. Jasper has been my friend since we were little so naturally we know everything about each other. He's more like a long lost twin. Seriously. It's like when one of us is hurt or just upset about something, the other knows. Twin telepathy. It's real.
"Oh hey K.C," he says, sort of distracted. He's staring at the sign really intently as if it's the most interesting thing he's ever seen. That's not like him. Sure hes weird but he's usually not this weird.
"New sign?" I guess. "Is there something wrong with it?"
"Hm? No."
"..."
"Oh! Sorry!" He takes off his glasses and offers them to me. "Look through these."
"Uh I don't know if you realized but I don't wear glasses. And you're so blind I won't be able to see through them!" I joke.
"They're not for seeing. They're for something else. And I'm not blind!" He pouts. Such a big baby.
"You liiiiieee." I put them on and everything turns blurry. "I can't see a damn thing you ass!"
"Give it a minute. They're still adjusting."
"Eh? What do you mean 'adjusting'?" Then I'm blinded again. This time by color, not by his prescription. I flinch a bit as bright letters reading "Welcome" appear directly before my eyes. "Holy shit!"
"Pretty sick right?" Jasper grins.
"Yeah sure." I roll my eyes and look at the different options because I can't look at anything else. "Games, T.V, Photos, Books, Tools, Settings, and...Music? How does that work with glasses?"
"Select it and find out."
"How the hell am I supposed to select it?!"
"Focus on it. Use your brain."
I try thinking about only the Music option and it works. When I select a song I like, earbuds pop out the ends of the glasses and go into my ears. "That's pretty cool. Now how do I turn these things off?"
"Just think the command."
They shut down. I pull them off and give them back. "Soo...what are they?"
"My own version of the Computer-Specs!" Jasper beams. "Made 'em myself. Much cheaper than the real ones!"
"God you are such a dork." I grin.
"I'm adorkable and you know it." He corrects me.
"You are the dorkiest geeky nerd I've ever met."
"I'm the only dorky geeky nerd you've met." He says confused.
"True. And that's why you're my favorite dorky geeky nerd."
"Aw thanks." He pauses. "...Wait..."
I laugh and get back on my Hover Board. "You coming D.G.N?"
"What does that even mean?"
"It's your new nickname. It's short for Dorky Geeky Nerd."
"Ha ha. Very funny Kasey." He says and pulls out his Hover Board.
"Not as funny as the look on your face when I leave you in the dust."
"Is that a challenge?" He grins. "You're on!"
"Same rules apply. Winner buys the loser a Monster." I crouch a bit for effect. "On your mark.."
"Get set..."
"Go!"
And we race.
