Blood Moon

Chapter 1

Let's start at the beginning. The very beginning.

I was 16 at the time. I was a normal teenager. I had problems that I thought were important at the time. I was concerned about exams, my makeup, crushes, prom but now I realize that was only the beginning of my worries.

My brother and I just moved to the town of Loup (means wolf in French) to live with my dad. My mom thought it would be a good idea to live with him while her boyfriend and her go on a cruise around the world. What a great deal! (Hint the sarcasm). As we went through my new town I see how boring it is. There's only one mall in this town and the only store I know was the GAP. You know that stereotype about all Canadians are super nice. Bullshit! I swear if one more bottle blonde glares at me I'm going to scream.

"You know this town is full of wolves sweetie?" My dad asks me looking through the rear view, mirror. "I know how you like them." He says. "Oh boy don't get her started on that crap." My older brother drake said laughing with his eyes locked to his phone, texting one of his many girlfriends I bet. " she's obsessed dad. Kids at school call her wolf all the time." He laughs not breaking eye contact with his phone. Drake was 17 years old, he was a jock and had tons of girls all over him.

"Oh, I heard you. I just don't care." I snap back at him. "Stop it you two." My dad cuts in " we're here to have fun not argue about dumb stuff." His names Robert but I call him dad (like most kids do). My dad is police chief in this small town. The one thing I wasn't excited about was riding around in a car with red and blue lights on top of it. Nothing is more embarrassing than driving around town in the back of a car with a cop. Anyway, I wanted this time with my dad to be special, especially because I haven't seen him face to face in six years. Like my dad said this time isn't for dumb stuff it's for fun. It was quiet and awkward between the three of us for a while till we drive up to a nice house at the end of the street.

The house was rather big for just the three of us. It was pure white, it looked like it was three floors, had a patio that rapped around the house, a big yard, and flowers? They looked to be freshly grown like someone planted them. My dad gardening? As of. It was also surrounded by woods. Thick woods. Like the kind the idiot in scary movies run into with the thick fog and huge trees. Well this is going to be fun! (Sarcasm) We drive up in the drive way. My brother and I looked as if it was paradise. "Wow!" Drake shouted almost bursting my ear drums. "You like it?"
"Let me think about it...yes!"

We get out the car and walk towards the front door. While walking I see a few strange things in the front yard. A doll? Why would there be a doll here? It couldn't have been mine. It looked like it was brand new, so if it was mine it would be torn up ages ago. Plus, it's my first time here. "Um dad why is there a doll here?" Drake and I looked at him totally confused. Dad had a happy look on his face like he was excited about something. Before dad could answer a pretty blonde girl popped out of nowhere. She was only about five years old, her blonde hair was in a little ponytail, her eyes were blue. She looked a lot like Drake and I
She ran up to dad and hugged his leg yelling "daddy's home!" Wtf? Daddy? Who is this girl?

Dad looked down at the girl and lifted her up. "Drake, Luna, I want you to meet your sister, Mia." Sister? Then a older women walked up to him and kisses him. ON THE MOUTH? She was probably in her late twenties early thirties. She was a pretty woman, like the girl she had blue eyes and blonde hair, she had a perfect body and she looked nice. "And I'm your new mom." She smiled going in for a hug like she knew us or something. She held drake and I for a minute neither of us moving or hugging back. Finally letting us so the woman said " Oh my god, I haven't seen you two spence you were yea big." She put her hand up to her chest representing our heights from when we were like 10. "Ugh do we know you?" I say lifting my eyebrow. Drake nudged me in the gut and with a smile said "what Luna meant to say was have we met before?" He was using his sweet boy act on her showing off a innocent smile, show off. "Oh your daddy said so much about you too and showed me your baby pictures and what not." My dad looked over at me guessing my confusion.
"Luna, Wendy and I are married and this is our daughter Mia."
"We're your new family." Wendy said hugging me again cheerfully in which I couldn't return.

"I was going to tell you sooner but I wanted it to be a surprise."
"Oh it was a surprise all right." I say. My brother and I were sitting on the couch as my dad tried to explain what was happening. "When were you going to tell us you had a new family? Or the fact that your married to her and have a kid. That girl is 5 years old so I'm pretty sure you had time to tell us. I haven't seen you in six years and the whole time I believed you wanted us but it turns out you were playing house with a model!" I shouted running out the door.

He didn't come after me. Like I figured.
Why didn't he tell us he was married. He abandoned our family for a new one. He replaced us. Lost in thought I started to walk into the woods.

The woods were dark. The trees were tall and seemed to block out the full moon that night. But at the came time It was beautiful. I couldn't deny it. Everything was green: the trees, their trunks all covered in moss, the ground covered in ferns even the leaves were green. I continued to walk till I made sure I was far away from that bloody house.

Looking back I the direction of the house I tripped over a fallen tree. "Ow, good job Luna, good job." I stand up and brush my self off not paying attention to my surroundings. Looking up I see the best thing since I got here. It was the one thing that could keep me sane in this situation. It was a big, brown wolf. It's eyes were golden and seemed to shine in the dark. It seemed to be just as amazed as me. He also stared at me. Our eyes seemed to connect with each other's. I know it wasn't safe but I couldn't help it, I started to walk up to the wolf. Holding my hand out to it. Walking closer and closer the wolf still wasn't breaking my eye contact. Finally, I slowly put my hand on its soft brown fur, and it let me. It didn't flinch, didn't growl or bite me, it just stood there, watching me. Then I could hear the howls of other near by wolves. The brown wolf hearing this too ran off in the opposite direction of me, accidentally scratching me as it ran away. It was a little scratch. I don't need stitches or anything.
"I better get to the house dads probably out looking for me." I muttered like someone was there.

I exited the woods and slowly walk up to my house lost in thought. I guess I did over react earlier. I'm sure he kept it from us for a good reason, right? I walked up the stairs of the porch, strangely the lights were still on and the door was locked. If they were looking for me wouldn't they turn off the lights before they left or at least keep the door unlocked just in class I came home? I walked over to the window by the front door. I didn't see a worried family worrying about their lost child. Not considered about if they could be hurt or not. I saw worse, I saw a happy family. A laughing family not a care in the world. They were watching a movie on the couch laughing their butts off. My dads arms wrapped around his new wife and his replacement daughter. A healthy prettier, funnier, a perfect little family . I clinched my fist my nails digging into my hands. I felt tears start to fill up my eyes. The only one I didn't see in the room with dad, I mean Robert, was Drake.

"Hey sis." I turn around and see Drake walking up the porch with a flashlight in his hands, he looked tired but relived when he saw me. At least he tried looking for me. "Hey."
"I see you seen the new family huh?" He said with a sad look in his eyes. I just nodded feeling if I talked id start to cry. "Want to go to a hotel or something? I don't feel like seeing them right now." Drake said looking down. "Yeah, let's go."
