When you hear the word Depression the first thing that pops in your head is sadness probably. You can get depression due to biology or stressful events. Biology can cause depression by having an imbalance of certain chemicals called neurotransmitters in the brain. Stressful events such as losing a family member or close friend, being diagnosed with a very serious illness or any other traumatic event can trigger depression. Like most illnesses there are both emotional and physical symptoms. The physical symptoms can be back pain, headaches, chest pain (if you have any chest pain of any type get medical ASAP), change in appetite or weight, dizziness or lightheadedness , sleeping problems, nausea, exhaustion and fatigue. You don't have to have any of these if you have depression. It is common to have physical symptoms. You don't have to have the emotional symptoms either. The emotional symptoms are feeling numb, empty, guilty, worthless, hopeless, sad, trouble making choices, irritability, anxiety, loss of interest of things you used to love, lastly thoughts of death and suicide.

If anyone you love is showing self harm or mentions they have suicidal thougts please contract these helplines. Not another person needs to die before someone takes action.
