"What are you talking about?" I inquired, "What do you mean you're sorry? I'm the one who is at fault. I'm the one who was too late to save James from drowning."

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you before. James, did not drown."

"What do you mean? I saw him lying there, covered in water."

"I...I..." Anne's tears became more prominent. "I killed him."

I couldn't believe it. Sweet Anne, the girl I had trusted since I was born, killed my only brother. I wouldn't buy it. I would wake up any minute. I would shoot up off the floor, covered in scrambled blankets and a cold sweat, gasping for air. This is all a dream. I'm going to wake up. None of this is real.

"Why?" I choked out in a high, blubbery voice.

"James stole your heart. Before he was born, you and I were inseparable. But when he came, he stole you away from me. I wanted my prize back. I wanted your love back. I just had to eliminate the competition and I would be sure to win."

I was stunned. With nothing else to say, I shoved Anne off of me, struggling as she tried to hold onto me. I made a mad dash towards my room after I escaped, quickly locking the door behind me.

I couldn't handle it. I gathered myself into my blankets and laid down on the bed. I fell asleep immediately.

My dreams started off hazy, but the full color came into view. I saw the times that James and I would go down the street to the market. He was little, so I would carry him on my shoulders. James had the brightest of blue eyes that lit up when he giggled, just like mine. His hair, his golden wheat hair, I could never keep that mess combed. And his laugh, oh his laugh, it was a joyous sound to hear, but turned menacing when I remembered that I would never see him again. All the memories began to fad. I would never see that beautiful face ever again. I just wish, that the last thing I said to him hadn't been 'see you guys in a little bit,' as I never did see him alive after that. Never would it forget his voice. I would haunt me for the rest of my life.
