Alice smiled politely to the man at the counter. He handed her the change and she walked back to her car and began pumping her gas. While the gas flowed from the tank to her car she hummed to herself. The gas tank cut off the flow, and she took out the nozzle and put it back on the hook carefully.
When she got into her car she turned on the radio. Some Fall Out Boy song was playing and she nodded her head to the beat. After it ended she turned off the radio because she didn't want to hear any more garbage on the radio these days. She only left it on when some of her favorite bands play. Most music today wasn't music, it was noise.
Alice decided to just sit in silence. It was only a few more minutes to her house and she thought the silence wouldn't be too bad for that long. The drive felt like an eternity to her. Alice saw her house and the muscles she didn't realize we're tensed, relaxed. Alice looked down and saw her grip on the steering wheel has turned her knuckles white.
Alice parked in her driveway and opened her car door. She went to the back seat and picked up several bags of groceries, balancing them in her arms. How she got the door open was a wonder to her, but she was glad she did. The counter was soon cluttered with all the groceries Alice had bought.
After all the groceries had been put away, Alice went to take a shower. The warm water relaxed her muscles and the music on Pandora seemed to know just what to play. Soon after she was cleaned, she decided to watch a movie.
Alice often felt bad because she was so lonely, but then she remember that she couldn't get distracted. Work was her main focus. She would work and get out of North Carolina. Besides, she had pets; she had a cat and a bulldog to keep her company.
"Winston! Oliver!" she called for her two pets. Alice heard little paws running on hard wood floors. Oliver, her cat jumped on her lap and rubbed his head against her chin. She rubbed his back, making his bottom rise in the air. Alice giggled at her cat when he looked at her and his tongue was just barely poking out.
Alice turned on her movie, realizing Winston wasn't interested enough to come. She was watching The Outsiders, a movie she'd seen a million times, but she would never get tired of it.
Alice opened her eyes, she didn't remember dosing off. She looked at the time and her eyes widened. It was roughly 11:30 and she needed to be in bed. She was never up this late.
Oliver was asleep, and Alice picked him up gently and cradled him. She walked to her bedroom and saw Winston already sleeping on the foot of her bed. Alice flopped on her bed and fell asleep quickly.
Her dreams were blank except a flash of hazel eyes.
