PART 23: Surprises

And then suddenly, it hit me. The moment you realize you are not half empty. That moment of all moments. Like there was music in the night and we can dance the sun out of the sky. These are the nights were everything feels possible.Maybe one day we'll fall short of the stories we tell but tonight we're more than just words on a page. We are here, we are different and we are everlasting.

We are half-known kids.

We are legendary.

-The summer set

Asher's P.OV.

“Okay guys, for next time I want your thoughts about this quote,” the teacher said when the bell rang signalizing the end of the period.

She, then, grabbed the chalk and started writing.

Again, what's the point of commenting on random quotes? Plus, couldn't she give us the freaking homework before the end of the lesson?

“And he suddenly knew that if she killed herself, he would die. Maybe not immediately, maybe not with the same blinding rush of pain, but it would happen. You couldn't live for very long without a heart.

-Jodi Picoult”

Killed?

Herself?

I suddenly started breathing more heavily.

“Where is Avery?!” I asked Luke as we exited.

“I dunno,” he said shrugging.

“What do you mean you don’t know?!” I shouted angrily.

“She left, man. She probably went home to get some rest. She was almost raped in case you forgot!”

“No, dude, seriously! We gotta find her!”

“Can you calm down?”

“You don’t get it, do you?! She only had me and now she can’t even stand looking into my eyes! She’s all alone. I gotta find her!” I yelled and raced off.

I started running. My neck was burning and I was coughing a lot but I just couldn’t stop. I was going as fast as I could and my lungs were ready to beat me up but I had to go on. And that stupid quote... It made my whole body feel sore.

When I finally made it to her house, I was ready to barge in when I heard a horn behind me. I turned around and faced Luke’s car. I frowned.

“What? My car is faster than you,” he said.

“What do you want?” I growled.

“Yeah, rawr, jaguar,” he mocked laughing.

“What-the-hell-do-you-want?” I repeated giving him a -this-is-fucking-serious' look.
