Alex had only just got out of the shower when his phone rang. He was always confused or concerned when his phone rang since he didn't exactly have friends unless Norma counted...but even then it always seemed to be something bad. When he picked up the phone he saw that it was in fact Norma. Surprise surprise, the only person who ever called him. "Yup?"
"Hey man, urm...i'm assuming you know a.." The bartender looked at Norma. He didn't catch her name. "What's your name?" he asked her, pulling the phone away from his ear slightly.
"Hmm?" Norma looked up from the bar she had her head down on. "Oh...my name? Norma. Nor-ma. With a 'ma'" She said precisely, emphasizing the 'ma' with a smack of her lips.
He put his phone back to his ear. "I'm assuming you know a Nor-"
"Yeah, I know Norma." Alex cut in quickly. "She's uh...she's my friend. Who are you and why do you have her phone?"
"It's cool man, i'm not some creep or anything. I'm a bartender at McGovern's? Norma here has had a few too many drinks and i'm just a little concerned. You were the first person on her contact list and I just hoped you two were close. Do you live nearby?"
He listened to the bartender, rubbing his forehead. "Shit." Of course this was the type of thing Norma would do. "Alright, yep, i'll come get her."
Norma reached forward, making a straining noise when she couldn't reach over the bar. "Who are you on the phone to? Huh? Who ya talkin' to?"
"Your friend Alex." the bartender said quietly, making sure she didn't reach the phone.
"Ooh! Aleeeeex" Norma shouted loud enough for Alex to hear. "Get your ass to McGoverns and take some shots with me!"
"I just heard that--don't give her shit, are we clear? Seriously, if I find out she's had any more drinks after this phone call i'll kick your ass." Alex said, picking up his jacket.
"Woah dude, dude, it's cool...okay? I wasn't going to give her any more anyway."
"Then we're good. I'll be there in 10 minutes." he said, hanging up the phone and getting in his car. This really wasn't the way he wanted to spend a Friday night, although then again as sad as it sounded, he had nothing better to do. Thankfully this bar wasn't far away at all, so he managed to get there in just under 10 minutes. He braced himself before walking into the bar, knowing how badly drunk Norma probably was.
Hearing the door open, Norma spun around on the leather seat of the stool, losing her balance slightly and grabbing hold of the bar for support. "ALEX!" she turned back to the bartender, pointing her finger right in his face. "Now this is where the party really starts. You watch. This guy, phew!" she said with obvious sarcasm, putting her hand to her chest. "What.a.party.animal." she said, snorting. "Get it? Because he's actually really miserable?"
"Yeah you're hilarious Norma, why don't you tell me more of your brilliant jokes in the car" Alex said as he walked over, practically snatching her phone back from the bartender. Despite the fact that he knew it wasn't exactly his fault, he was still pissed at the guy for letting Norma drink so much.
"In the car? Uhhhhm why would I want to come in the car with you?" she asked, poking his chest and trying to push him. "I'm actually having a lot of fun here with--" she looked at the bartender, scrunching her nose up. "What's your name?"
"Shaun.." the man answered reluctantly. Honestly, he felt guilty for the amount of alcohol he'd let her drink. She was nothing like this the first moment she walked in.
