Alan's P.O.V

"Welcome to the family, Mikayla!" I said happily.

I couldn't wait for her to become apart of our family. I remember Ms. Bennett saying Mikayla has never heard of God before, so I was going to try to witness to her as well.

Mikayla's mouth dropped and she stood completely still for a moment, staring at me. The brunette girl standing next to her waved a hand in front of her face. "Yeah, she's not breathing," she said to Ms. Bennett.

Her friend snapped her fingers in Mikayla's face a few times and said, "Kaylie, breathe!" Mikayla blinked and closed her mouth.

"Is this for real?" she whispered. "You get to be my new sister!" AJ said, hugging onto Mikayla's leg.

Mikayla's eyes got glassy and she smiled hugely.

"Go get packed. We'll get the paperwork filled out," Brycie said. "Can I come?" AJ asked. Mikayla looked down, as if just realizing the little girl was on her leg. She nodded and the two held hands. Mikayla held onto her friend's hand and they ran upstairs.

My phone buzzed right as they ran off.

Chad- How'd the adoption thing go, man?

Alan: Great! We found a girl that's going to fit in great.

Chad- Awesome! Hehehe

I didn't know what was with the 'Hehehe' but with Chad it could mean anything.

On the way home, Mikayla listened to AJ talk, but she was staring out the window mostly. She nodded every now and then, but I could tell something else was on her mind.

Mikayla's P.O.V

I couldn't believe this was actually happening. Was it for real?

I didn't want to get too attached just in case they changed their minds. They seemed like a nice family though.

We pulled into a large house. It was at least two stories. It was beautiful.

We climbed out of the car and Alan helped me with my bags.

We walked in and saw a huge banner hung up that had something written in finger paint.

I stared at it in confusion. Alan however, was smiling. "So that's what he meant-," he mumbled.  He was cut off by a very loud, "Surprise!"

Three men jumped out from various place, all wearing party hats. The tallest one was wrapped in streamers for some reason.

Alan and Brycie laughed, while I stared a them with wide eyes. How come they didn't question how these guys got into their house?

"Uncle Chad!" Avery Jade shouted, running towards the tall streamers man. He bent down and hugged the little girl. "Hi, I'm Joey and this is Caleb." A man that was shorter than Streamers came over with another man about the same height. One had black hair and blue eyes, while the other had brown hair and brown eyes. I shook their hand and mumbled, "Mikayla."

"How'd you get in, by the way? Not that this isn't awesome or anything," Alan asked. "It was unlocked," Streamers said. Alan shrugged then set my bags down.

"Oh and that's Chad," Caleb said, pointing to Streamers. He waved. "Mikayla, why don't you take your stuff up to your room? AJ will show you to it," Brycie said. Avery Jade squirmed out of Chad's hug and ran upstairs. "Follow me!" she said. Presley toddled after her and I followed to duo.

My mouth dropped at the room. It was huge!

"This is mine?" I asked in shock. "Yep! My room is right next to yours. Presley sleeps in my room and Rowe sleeps with Mommy and Daddy," Avery Jade explained.

A bed was against the right-hand corner, and  white bookshelf was next to the bed. There was a dresser at the other wall and a beautiful guitar at the foot of my bed. "We heard you liked music, so we got you guitar," a voice said, making me jump.

Avery Jade and Presley were gone and Alan was behind me.

I turned back to my room. It was a light purple color and had white curtains. I noticed a purple Book on my bed that had a pretty white flower on it.  I walked over to it and opened it. I saw a bunch of letters. "Lunch is in ten," Alan said, leaving the room.

I turned back to the Book and opened the very first page. ' T-the t-t-teen B-Bible, no that can't be right. What's a Bible?'  I stared at the words, wishing I understood them. I opened it to the next page and saw a table of contents. There was a long  list of words that were too hard to try to read.

Ok fine! So I can't read! It's not that I don't want to, I just don't know how. We were all homeschooled at the orphanage and I skipped over the reading part because I was too focused on why I was there. I never learned how after that, just guessed what to do on my school work. Most of the time it worked... Sort of.

Anyway, I must've been staring at that Book for a while because I soon heard Brycie call, "Mikayla, lunch is ready!"

I ran downstairs. The group of guys that had made that surprise party were still here. They were sitting at the table and eating some sandwiches. I saw a few bags that had a weird drawing on them. 'Ch-ch-chick-fil-a?'

What was that? "Mikayla! Have you ever had Chick-fil-a before?" Chad asked with a mouth full of the sandwich he was eating. I shook my head and all four of the guys' mouths dropped. "You have to come over here and try this," Joey said. "Yeah, Chick-fil-a is Alan's fourth child," Caleb said, then they laughed for some reason. I took a seat next to Caleb and Alan slid me a sandwich and some waffle fries.

While we ate this surprisingly delicious food, I watched Chad and Joey argue. At first I thought it was real, then I saw the playful smiles on their faces.

There was a knock on the door and Brycie went to answer it. "That's probably Fallon and Kelsey," Caleb said. Before I had a chance to ask who they were, two blondes walked in following Brycie. "Hi! I'm Fallon and this Kelsey," one of the blondes said. "Mikayla," I said quietly. I shook their hands.

Fallon kissed Chad on the cheek and Kelsey kissed Caleb.

Either they were dating, or married. Judging by the wedding rings I noticed the four were wearing, I went with married.

We talked for a while then watched a Disney movie called Frozen after I said I've only seen a few Disney movies. Frozen was on the movies I haven't seen yet. The orphanage only had a few movies and they couldn't really afford the new ones that came out. We mainly had older stuff, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Aladdin, and Winnie the Pooh. It was all on VHS as well.

Anyway, Chad and my new sisters were belting out all the songs. It was hilarious. I was still focused on not getting too attached though so I didn't say much.

Joey and Chad got into another 'fight' when Joey called Chad 'Chadwick'.

This was going to be an interesting family.

"Just let it go, Chad! Just let it go!" Caleb shouted at the pair, which earned him a pillow to the face.
