I finish my cappuccino and Stan stares at me incredulously. The shock still hits him as I pay for the check.
"Say something." I try to speak calmly.
"How- you- what?" He stuttered and looked as if he were crying. Tears glistened in his eyes and threatened to fall down his cheeks. Quickly, I grabbed his hand and squeezed reassuringly.
"It was a long time ago. I'm working on dealing with it."
"He's in your house." Stan grits protectively.
"I know." I mumble looking down at the sticky wooden table.
"La-it's only been a year. He can't have changed that much. It's not safe for you to be there."
"I know. I don't trust him. None of us do. But he's rich and powerful and scary. My mom can't beat him, if she tries to push him away he'll sue and get custody of us." I push the fear down as I look into Stan's angry brown eyes.
"But-" I can't let him finish.
"I just have to wait til I'm in college, far, far away. Then I'll just never come back." I say dreamily.
"But that's just running away." He states full of frustration.
"It's one of my many talents." I say with a sad smile. Stan cups my cheek with his hand and I close my eyes.
"Hey guys?" Jeremy looks at us awkwardly and I immediately distance myself from his boyfriend.
"Hey Jer. Come sit." I order nicely and smirk at Stan's blush.
"If you guys are-" he starts but I interrupt by standing.
"No, I gotta leave. Got a badboy to chat with and angry family to deal with." I roll my eyes and both boys give me supportive smiles.
"We're here if you need us." Jeremy claims softly and I smile for real.
"Thanks. Love you guys." They nod and I walk out to find a motorbike.
"Hey stranger."
"I was just looking for you." I tell Adam as he bums out a cigarette.
"You know those kill." I Pester and he only ignores me.
"Need a ride?"
"Yeah." I answer quietly. Once we get to his house, we find Piper and her asshole boyfriend. I can't even say his name. The spawn of satan smirks at me and winks, while Piper is still wrapped up in the horror movie they're watching. Adam leads me to his room and shuts the door behind him.
"So, I don't really like how we left things." He starts scratching the back of his neck awkwardly. This must be new to him too.
"Basically some emotional stuff has just hit me and I'm pretty much a disaster." I ramble and Adam slowly walks closer to me.
"What kind of emotional stuff?" He asks lightly and just as I'm about to unload it all again, exhaustion hits me.
"Um, I'm kind of too tired to talk about it? Can I take a nap first before I unload all of my issues on you?" I say nervously. I know he wanted to hear an explanation. He's been curious about me, but he's going to have to wait. After hesitating, he nods reluctantly and motions for his bed. Without thinking twice I jump in and snuggle under the comforters. He raises his eyebrows but smartly stays silent. I close my eyes and bury my head into his lumpy pillows.
***********
When I wake, I have no idea where I am. Then I remember and blush. Getting up, I look around his room and take note of the slight changes he's made to my best friend's old bedroom. The walls are a darker navy blue and the windows now have long white curtains. His floor holds scattered sneakers and jeans along with magazines. Then I find the gold. His book corner. He has an entire sector of his room, spilling books. Nestled in the corner of stories is a comfy looking black leather chair.
I spend twenty minutes just picking up all the various stories he keeps. From twenty Berenstain Bears books to Dante's Inferno cover each shelf. I pick up Fahrenheit 451 and read the back. A black and grey book sticks out to me and I see a familiar title. The Bookthief or one of my favorite books stands in the middle of the fourth shelf. Smiling, I pull it back and leaf through. A crash from the floor below startles me and I quickly put the books back. But then, I reconsider and grab a random rectangle. No one hears me enter the living room because the only ones there were too busy sucking faces. Gritting my teeth I sit on the couch loudly, trying to get their attention. Piper waves her hand, to tell me to go away. Frustration fills me and I still stubbornly put my feet on the coffee table and open the book.
Fight Club.
I smile and read the familiar first page quickly. Immediately I get sucked in and it takes Adam three tries to get my attention.
"BOOK THIEF!" I jump at the shout in my ear.
"What the-" I start and blush at Adam's smirk.
"I caught you. Ha." He beams and I shake my head slowly. Piper and poopface resurface and watch us curiously.
"I was just borrowing your book." I defend quietly while looking at the floor. Adam laughs and cups my chin gently.
"It's fine Lay. I was kidding." He says as he crouches in front of me. I smile and blush at our closeness. After a moment Adam stands back up and takes my hand. We walk back up to his room, much to Pipers loud protest.
"So, you like Fight Club?" I ask and watch as he lazily walks around his room. As he flops onto his corner chair, he shakes his head.
"I bought it after I saw you reading it at the Bookshop." He answers quietly and I blink to make sure I'm not imagining the blush that covers his cheeks.
"Oh?" I say in surprise and utter happiness.
"Um, yeah." He mumbles and scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. Smiling, I walk over to his chair and position myself on his lap. Basically straddling him, I watch as his eyes widen. Slowly and cautiously I lean closer to him and brush my lips against his. Our breaths become heavy with suspense as I press my lips fully and shakily place my hands on his jaw. He eagerly responds and deepens the kiss, grabbing my neck to pull me closer. After a moment I back away to tease him.
"Have you read it?"
"What?" Adam mumbles and dazedly stares.
"Fight Club." I say in a 'duh' tone.
"Um, yeah."
"You know the first rule right?" I say with a smile.
"Don't talk about fight club." He monotonously reminds me. Smirking, I kiss him lightly and he growls,
Tugging me closer.
I slide forward so that my chest is against his. Adam groans and I bite his lip playfully.
"Don't do that." He growls and I freeze in fear of his intensity.
"I-um, I-" I stutter and back away. But Adam refuses to let me go. He grabs my face and kisses me so hard, my toes curl and my brain goes fuzzy. Quickly, without thinking, I grab his shirt and place my hands under it, tracing his lean chest. The muscles tighten and his breaths quicken. In a flash his shirt is gone and I remove my lips from his. For a moment I just stare at the naked chest of the boy I've been passionately kissing. My brain falters and I register the multiple bruises that decorate his beautiful pale skin.
"Lay-" he starts but stops when my lips gently kiss each one. Over and over again I try to kiss them away, as if I can take the pain away too.
"Shit." Adam mumbles as my kisses move up to his neck. I nibble on the soft place where his shoulder meets his neck. He groans and I smile, while i try to make a good sized hickey. After I lightly blow on it, Adam jerks into action. He takes my face and smashes his lips against mine. In a second his tongue dances with mine and his hands grab my waist tightly. I gasp slightly when his fingers trail under my shirt. First they travel around my hips and then they move up to my belly button. When they reach the wire of my bra, I snap back.
"I-um. I-" I shake my head and run my fingers through my tangled hair. Adam watches me with dark eyes.
"I'm the only shirtless." He stares blankly.
"Adam-I-"
"It's okay. You don't have to." He looks around the room and I watch as he tries to cool himself down unsuccessfully. After a moment of thinking it over, I reconsider. Smiling softly, I tug my old tshirt over my head and throw it on the floor next to his. My palms sweat as I wait for him to notice. When he finally looks back at me, I nervously watch his surprised face. My black and white polka dot bra pushes up my boobs slightly. But what really worries me is the angry red lines along my stomach. He traces them slowly and then torturously kisses each one. My head lols back and I sigh grabbing his hair and running my fingers through it. Adam kisses my cheek, then my forehead, then my eyelids, then my lips. Slowly, he places his hands on my chest as he kisses me thoroughly. Our breaths mix and I reflexively roll my hips against his. He makes a noise of surprise and grabs my hips harshly.
"Don't. Do. That." He growls again and I bite my lip. Smirking I roll my hips again and Adam moans loudly.
"Layla." He breathes and I kiss him as harshly as he did to me before. With one hand holding his neck, I used the other to place on his thy. My thumb twitches and strokes him as lightly as possibly. Sucking on his bottom lip, I use all my possible courage to palm him over his pants.
"Fuck." He moans and I hold a laugh. How could this possibly turn him on already? Thank god for chic lit and fanfiction. I would have no idea what to do otherwise.
"Layla." He moans again as I try to do better. Quickly he fumbles to undo his pants. I jerk as he frees himself and balk at the sight. What the hell am I doing? Oh my god this is real. When he notices my freeze, he immediately finishes my work.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck," he mutters as he closes his eyes. I snap and push his hands away.
"I can do it." I mutter and look at him. His blue eyes sparkle and he shakes his head slightly.
"You don't have to. It's okay." He whispers and places his sweaty hand on my cheek.
"I want to." I mumble and blush. Looking down, I gulp. Well there's a real dick staring at me. Shit. Shaking slightly, I pump him and his kisses me all over. My hands sweat and slip and I am so embarrassed by my inexperience. Adam finishes and I again watch in awe as I see him climax. This is all so weird and amazing.
"Holy-" he starts but I shake my head.
"I know. I'm sorry. I just-"
"That was perfect." He smiles and takes my chin. I roll my eyes doubtfully and he smirks.
"Quite some hands you've got there." I laugh and blush.
"I have to return the favor." He smiles and starts to unzip my jeans.
"Oh, no that's okay." I try to say but Adam looks at me with dark eyes.
"I'll be gentle. I promise."
"Adam. No." I say strongly and try to wiggle away.
"Okay. Are you sure?" He holds his hands up and I nod.
"Yes." I answer and peck his puffy lips.

"Where the hell have you been young lady?" My father shouts as I enter my home. My smile immediately falls from my face and my wonderful afternoon with Adam goes to the back of my mind. Fear takes over me and I look at my red faced father. He storms toward me and I shrink and try to hide myself.
"I was at Piper's-"
"You don't call. You don't text. You wander around like you're an adult."
"Dad, I'm seventeen."
"I. Don't. Careeee." He seethes. My eyes widen when I see the familiar twitch in his hand. Just as he raises it midair, a familiar voice surprises us.
"Dad. Back away from her. Now."
Reagan stares at us with determination.
