Prologue: The Coronation

I'm Lillian Evans. I'm 17 years old and have long, brown, wavy hair. My eyes are a hazel green. I'm a senior in high school and I've known I am a were since I was 15.

"Lilly, you have to go to the coronation. I hear the new alpha is super hot and mateless still." My best friend Alexis, I call her Alex, begs me. Our pack's Alpha is stepping down and leaving his son to step up. His son, Jake, is 19 and the most rude person you will ever meet. Before we knew we were weres, he used to be the most popular guy in school. With that came being a player. Every girl and some guys in the school wanted to date him. Every girl, except me. I saw through his charm. I knew he was nothing but an asshole. Nothing has changed. Alex moved here three years ago and has the privilege to not know who Jake is.

"Alex, I don't care if he's hot and mateless. He's an arrogant asshole." I roll my eyes trying to get out of going to the coronation.

"You know who he is?!" She yells way too excitedly.

"Yea, I went to school with him before you moved here. He was shipped to 'military school' in 8th grade. I realize now that it was training camp to become Alpha." Alex's eyes get huge and she squeals. She is way too excited about this.

"Now you HAVE to go with me! One of us could be his mate!!! Do you know how exciting being Luna would be?!" I don't think it'd be very exciting. I think it'd be a nuisance being in charge. Not to mention being Jakes mate.

"Alex, I'm not going and that's final." I put my foot down. She raises an eyebrow at me and smiles while she flips her blonde hair over her shoulder. 10 minutes later, we're walking into the lobby area.

Mr. Williams is in the front of the room on the stage. Jake is nowhere to be seen at the moment. I feel a hand on my back and immediately freak out. I don't like being touched by random people.

"Lilly! Calm down! It's just me." I turn around to see my gay best friend, Drew, standing beside a now laughing hysterically Alex. Drew, Alex and I have been like three peas in a pod since Alex moved here Sophomore year. Before that it was Drew and I against the world. He came out of the closet freshman year but I already knew he was gay. When you've around someone since you were 7, it's kind of easy to tell if they're gay or not.

"I'm going to kill you both one of these days." I glare at my best friends playfully as they continue laughing at my panic.

"I don't see what the big deal about seeing Jake again is. He is just scrumptious to look at." Drew states bluntly as I crinkle my nose. I really don't want to run into him is the main thing. He'd probably beat me to a pulp.

"I don't care if he's slightly attractive. He's a jerk." I cross my arms as I roll my eyes. He's not even that attractive.

"Have you seen him since he got back from training last week? His arms are the size of your calf with his delicious muscles. I am wouldn't mind being his mate. If you get what I'm saying." Drew is kind of a gay slut when it comes to eye candy. We had to put a stop to his details on what he wants to do to hot guys. I hope Drew isn't Jakes mate. If he was I would have to deal with him being around and that is the last thing I want.

"Ooh here comes Jake!" Alex squeals in my ear. I turn around to leave since I thought he'd be on stage but nope. He's walking through the door and is now standing right in front of me.

Instantly our eyes meet and I realize I'm in for hell. His gaze sends shivers down my spine and a warm feeling in my heart. My wolf in me is screaming at me to go to our mate but I refuse. He can't be my mate. I won't be his mate. Jake closes his sky blue eyes and takes a deep breath. He opens his gorgeously now golden wolf eyes and smiles directly at me. I blush under his gaze. His wolf howls in the pack mind link, letting every pack member know that I am his. The entire room goes silent and turn to look at me. I can feel the stares on me. Whispers begin from everyone around us.

"Hello, Lilly." Jake seductively growls just quite enough for me to hear. He remembers me. And he knows that I am his true mate.
