We were driving along the old, mossy road towards the stone bridge. Amber sat in the backseat of the convertible, giggling about some new hot guy in her magazine. River looked over and smiled at me from the drivers side, reaching over with one hand and lacing his fingers with mine. My blonde curls flowed behind me, the slow movement of the car causing a steady breeze. River turned his gaze back to the road and I smiled to myself. Life couldn't be better.
The sun set over the glistening lake as we drove past, Amber snapping a picture with her always-ready camera, determined to capture every beautiful picture she could. Amber was a phenomenal photographer, her pictures have even appeared on postcards and websites and even tv commercials. I was more into music, my talent for the saxophone was my way of life. River was a soccer star, and an undercover nerd. I always teased him when he was finishing homework as I came over, or solving a calculus equation under the table at dinner. Images of his occasional dorkiness flashed through my head, and I laughed to myself when the memory of his face when I had dropped his textbook in a puddle by accident a couple weeks ago.
We've been dating for three years, and I couldn't be happier. Just for the fun of it, I'd even tried out his last name. Skylei Cascade. It even had a nice ring to it. Amber squealed at her new photo, exclaiming that it was her best one yet. I smiled, she said that every single time. River and I laughed, and as we approached the old stone bridge, nobody noticed the low-hanging telephone wire or missing stones from the center of the bridge.
