Prologue

The moonlight shone through the mist, illuminating the dark pavement below.

Time stopped as he stepped in front of me, the musky scent of his leather jacket tickling my senses. I saw his back muscles tense as he sized up the opposition. Slightly turning his head towards me, his angular jaw move as he murmured, "Go. Now."

He didn't really think I was going to listen to him, did he? I tried to give him my best death glare before I realized that the place was too dark for him to notice what I was doing.

What a waste of a perfectly good death glare.

"No way." I said stubbornly, jutting out my chin to prove my point.

"Andrea. Go now. Before it's too late." He practically growled, sending a shiver up my spine. Man, he could be intimidating when he wanted to. I wasn't going to let that stop me from staying here though. Just as I opened my mouth to speak, I heard it.

Footsteps.

Loud, resonating footsteps were heard, breaking the eerie silence of the empty parking lot. Standing on my tip toes, I craned my neck to look over Asher's shoulder at the advancing intruders. Squinting my eyes in the slowly fading mist, I could make out the silhouettes of three bulky figures. Slowing down, the larger of the faceless men called out to us, his raspy voice carrying in the humid breeze.

"Well, well, well, looks like the lovebirds have been cornered!" My cheeks burned red, as I thanked god that it was too dark for Asher to see them. I stepped forward from behind Asher, trying to look as threatening as possible- well as threatening as a girl like me could be. Asher put an arm around my waist, pulling me closer to his side whilst trying to put me behind him once again.

"We're not going without a fight." Asher rumbled, his chest vibrating. The man closest to us, face now visible, turned up the corner of his lip in what was supposed to be a smile, but looked like a grimace instead. He looked rugged, with a long white scar running from his jawline to his collarbone. His face was mangled; almost as if someone had taken a knife and dragged it down his face. In all honesty, he looked like joker on crack.

"So be it." He replied, now edging forward.

Shit. This is not good. I don't even know how I always manage to get caught up in the worst situations- this being the most dangerous.

"On the count of three, run okay?" Asher whispered, his breath tickling my neck.

"Only if you do too." I replied, hoping he would agree. Asher was not one to run away from a fight. But maybe if I was stubborn enough...

"Okay." He grumbled, obviously restraining himself. "One, two-"

"Wait!" A feminine voice shouted. A very familiar feminine voice.

I turned on my heel, looking into the distance at a girl of my height. As she came closer I realized who it was. What was she doing here? Where has she been all this time? How did she find us? A million thoughts and emotions ran through my mind as I looked at my mirror image.

Hurt.

Anger.

Happiness.

Betrayal.

Not only were we the same height, but we also shared the same DNA.

Asher looked between us, obviously confused. Looks like I had a lot of explaining to do.

"Alex?! What are you doing here?" I said, pinching my arm trying to make sense of what my eyes were showing me. Surely this was a dream? The dull ache on my arm indicated otherwise. Alexandra was here, in front of me- right now.

She looked at me, her hazel eyes widening in the process. "Andrea, watch out!"

CLANK. I felt something hard hit the back of my head before I fell into darkness.

But one thing was for sure- She. was. back.
