Just Ice

"Kato Mercer you are charged with being a levelest! We sentence you to death!" The voice echoed, in my head.

I just wonder how they found out.

Now I know why some fell to their deaths.

They lost track of time and forgot to stop the free fall.

I had two choices.

Plummet to my death or...

Try to run, if I use my wings they will chase me and kill me.

The trip to this place took three days.

It's the highest place we can go.

That also means if I try to use velocity to speed ice would have formed on my wings and I would just plummet.

"Fuck it." I whispered to myself, and drew my wings out my back.

It was night time, but my wings were pure white I was easy to spot like a rat and a eagle.

I faced down about forty five degrees and made my wings form a circle around me, and began to roll to the left away from the mountain.

I believe the humans called it the 'Himalayas', they call it The Verdict, I call it death.

This is going to be a while before I reach one mile above sea level, some parts are five or more miles up.

I can hear them flapping their wings behind me.

"Kato give up, were fasting and smarter than you!" One of them shouted.

I stopped and stayed where I was flapping my wings to stay level.

"Good boy." He snickerd.

I turned around to face them, and they formed a circle around me.

"One thing." I almost laughed.

"And whats that?" He asked.

"Fuck you." I laughed and stopped flapping.

I did a flip so I was facing directly down and drew my wings close to my body.

With our also very good genetic eyesight I spotted some unknown lake nearby, there's thousands of lakes in the Himalayas.

I directly aimed for the lake landing on ground on this speed break even my bones, same with water but I have a slim chance in water.

I made my wings cocoon around me in a white, feathery ball.

As soon as I hit the water pain shot up my wings and I heard a sicking crunch of my bones in my wings breaking, and my own voice screaming out soon muffled by the dark water.

They flew up above me, wondering where I went.

"He's dead." One of them muttered.

"Maybe." The leader mutters.

The flew away.

I wasn't dead I was unconscious, with broken wings.

The temperatures of the Himalayas can reach under the freezing point, and then ice forms.

Even more if it's pouring down with rain.
