Courtney's POV
He was alive. I was alive.
We were both alive.
We were both in love with each other.
How had this happened?
Ellie's POV
Vic and Courntey were alright.
Now if only I knew where they stood with each other. I could feel my heart pounding in anticipation as Jaime's sweaty palm gripped my own. The door seemed to separate me from the thing I needed. That was to see them.
I had wished death upon Vic and he hadn't died. I am forever indebted to the force that prevented that. I know that now.
I pushed open the door of the hospital room, a terrible feeling of terror spread throughout me. I didn't know what I was about to see, and I didn't know if I was prepared for what I would see. All I knew was that I needed to see. I knew that with every fiber of my being.
Jaime's POV
Ellie squeezed my hand quickly before pushing open the door.
I wasn't prepared for what I was about to see. I didn't know what was wrong with Vic, but he looked awful.
Then there was Courtney. Bandages were around her wrists, but she was gazing over at Vic on the bed opposite her. Her brown bangs matted to her forehead and the sweat from who knows what trickled down her chin.
Courtney saw us looking, so she threw herself backwards and began to gaze up at the ceiling.
I looked to Ellie questioningly, but she just shrugged and took a place next to Courtney on her bed.
I walked slowly towards Vic.
I sat down next to him.
He looked terrible. His long brown hair was matted to his head and I could see sweat droplets all over his body. His breathing was short and quick. He didn't move when I threw my arms around him. He didn't wake up when I kissed his forehead like I had done since we became best friends.
He was just... Still.
I looked up to see Courtney looking at me.
"They sedated him. After he flatlined, they put him on heavy medication so he wouldn't hurt himself. They say... They say he's alive, but right now he's still very unstable. He may die." I couldn't process what she was saying. That couldn't happen, not to Vic. Never to Vic.
"N-n-no," I stuttered. "I don't believe you!" I shouted.
I ran out of that room, as far away from anyone as possible.
Vic's POV
Black.
Total Darkness.
There was no pain though.
I couldn't feel my body.
My lungs were constricting.
I couldn't breathe.
'Vic...' A voice called. It was eery. There was no one around him. All he could see was darkness that consumed him; it took his thoughts, his sight...
'Vic Fuentes...'
'Leave the world behind you... Enter the darkness with us...'
"No!" I shouted at the unidentified voice.
'You will in time,' another voice cooed. This one was softer and more prodding, more sure of itself. It was the voice of a female; Vic recognized it but was unsure to whom it might've belonged to.
'They all enter the darkness with us. All in good time,' the female cooed.
"I will never."
'Yes you will,' she said flatly.
There were no voices. They were in my mind. I was dreaming. But I couldn't escape. I couldn't escape this dream.
What was happening to me?
The voices stopped, and the small ripples beneath me in my dream state that signaled my breathing stopped.
I could hear a blaring noise within my head, and then even dream me, fell subject to the pills.
3rd Person POV
"Get the defibrillators!"
Ellie held down Courtney as the doctor's tried to revive the broken man in the bed to the left of Courtney's bed. All hearts in that room were pounding. Everything was a blur, but was slow motion. It was like being caught in a trance. They were all in a trance of waiting for what would happen next.
"Clear!"
"Damn it breathe!"
"Clear!"
Nothing.
Courtney collapsed next to Ellie and the doctors stopped after 10 attempts.
Ten meager attempts to save Vic's life.
Courtney wouldn't look, and no one in the room would dare to breathe.
"I'm sorry," the doctor murmured.
"I am too," whispered Courntey, as a tear streaked down her face.
"Some people can't handle that amount of pills, most people can't. I'm sorry for your loss..."
Beep... Beep... Beep...
Everyone looked at the monitor.
Vic was alive.
