"Alrighty, little Jessie," Leena cooed into her little sister's crib, waving the month-old's favorite 'J' letter block just out of her reach, "today's me and Jax's eighth birthday. So you're not going to do anything to muck it up like Jax did last year. Okay?"

Jessie looked up blankly at Leena then frowned and sniffled then started screaming and bawling.

"Oh, Jessie." Leena dropped the letter block to cover her ears.

"Mum the pest is crying again," Jax called out.

Wait, I can fix this, Leena thought hopefully. She'd always wanted her powers to come on her birthday. This could finally be it, so she closed her eyes did her signature move. Leena put her hand above her right ear as if she were sprinkling fairy dust on herself. She circled her hand around the back of head as she muttered a spell:

"This baby's crying is very earbashing

Give us now the silence we're longing."

Leena opened her eyes only to get a letter bock to the head.

"Nice shot, Jess," Jax laughed from the doorway next to their mother. Leena flipped around as Liana walked forward to pat Leena on the shoulder.

"Good try, Leena, but longing and earbashing don't rhyme," she said.

"Wait, wait," Jax laughed barely able to breathe, "you thought you had your powers? That's hilarious!"

Leena narrowed her eyes at him and crossed arms. "You're a joker," she huffed, then strode over to him and pushed him through the door, "Hold on. Wait, Leena, hold on." and slammed the door in his laughing face. She crossed her arms again and walked back towards her mother, pouting. "I really don't know why we keep him around. I mean--"

"Shsh. Jessie's sleeping." Liana rocked her in her arms. "And we kind of have to, Leena; he's your brother."

"He sure's a crook of one."

"Oh, Leena, he's fine. He'll grow on you." Liana placed Jessie in her crib and knelt down to Leena's level. "And as for your powers, you'll get them eventually. And with them, you, Jax, and Jessie will rule the magic realm as the Chosen Ones."

"Wouldn't that be the Chosen Three?"

"I'd work it out." Liana winked which made Leena laugh.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have pre-party preparations to get to," Leena said very regally.

"Okay but don't take too long. Party's in an hour."

"Got it, Mum." Leena smiled sneakily and slipped through the nursery doorway.

Leena made a quick stop by the family room couch where she'd previously chosen to hide all the things she'd pilfered from Jax's room and threw one of those things into the downstairs guest room. Then she raced upstairs to Jax's room, seeing just what she was expecting: Jax searching wildly for his doll.

"Where is he, where is he?" Jax muttered as he threw things out of his way. "Where's--," he turned and spotted Leena. He stalked over to her and jabbed a finger in her face, "Alright, ratbag. Where's Captain El Capitán?"

Leena smiled slyly. "I thought I saw him in the downstairs guest room."

"Right," Jax said pushing past her.

"I wouldn't go in there, though," Leena warned, stepping in front of him.

"Why?"

"The door's a bit broke and the lock's on the wrong side."

"Oh, rack off, Leena." And he pushed her again.

The mischievous girl tried to hide her smile and followed Jax down the stairs. He ran into the room and lovingly picked up his toy. "Captain El Capitán, you alright, mate?"

Leena turned the lock and gazed inside the room and waited for Jax to turn around. When he did and got a horrified look on his face, and pleaded, "Wait, wait. Leena, no!" she once again slammed the door in his face.

Jax banged on the door, pleading to be let out while Leena giggled in a way that might have been considered evil. She wandered into a the kitchen to get herself a victory juice box. Walking back to the family room to wait for her party guests, Leena passed her father on the way.

"Hey have you seen Jax? He's gonna miss the blowing up of the bouncy house if he doesn't show up soon," Jake said.

"Oh, yes. He said he'd rather play with his dolls."

"You mean action figures?"

"Sure."

"That's too bad. He seemed really excited before."

"Yeah. I'd love to watch."

"Great. This'll be-uh-spiffy, right?"

"Right," Leena giggled and she followed him out the back door, grinning broadly as she sipped her congratulatory apple juice.
