{Nicole Cayer in the MM}
We regret to inform you that you were not selected for the intern position. We thank you for considering Def Jam records. I kept reading the letter over and over hoping that it was a mistake, but it wasn't a mistake I had been rejected. This was the last summer before I left for college and it is now ruined. I crumbled up the letter and shoved it deep into the bottom of my bag. "Nicole lets go now or I'm going to be late." That was my mom rushing me as always. My mom was a very impatient woman.

Her motto was if your not early your late. "I'm coming now mom." I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs into the front room. I walked into the kitchen to grab some breakfast where I saw my mom rushing around cleaning grabbing papers and organizing things. I guess you can call my mom a neat freak. Everything must be petite and perfect including me which is why she has basically planned my whole life. She wants me to be just like her. "Ok come on lets go." She said grabbing her briefcase. I grabbed a poptart from the box and walkked past my Benz and got into my moms Lamborghini.

Pulling up in my moms brand new Lamborghini. I got out of the passenger side closing my door. I stood in front of the huge building of Cayer law firm. My mom built this business from the ground up. My grandparents were rich lawyers so my mom grew up having a lot expected of her. My grandparents were lawyers, my mom is a lawyer, my sister's in law school and now I'm expected to be a lawyer. "Nicole come inside I have a meeting." I followed my mom into the building as we walked past the secretary desk going onto the elevator. We reached the top floor and walked to the end of the hall going into my moms master office. As soon as the door closed the phone rang. My mom went over to answer it and got straight to work. I walked over to the huge windowsill that took up most of the wall and sat down. I turned around and saw that my mom had hung up the phone and was now signing papers so I walked over to her desk.

"Mom why am I here?" I asked sitting on the edge of her desk. "You are here because I want you to intern here for the summer." She answered never looking up from her stack of papers. "Why? I don't want to waste my summer here." I was now getting upset. First I get rejected from my Def Jams internship and now my mom wants to have me stuck working here for FREE. My summer is ruined. "I don't think its a waste I think it would give you great practice for when you're a lawyer and you one day take over this company." She said tapping my leg with her pen telling me to get off the desk. My mom doesn't think I'm girly enough she's always telling me to be more lady like. "Im going to the break room you want anything?" I needed any excuse to get out of there. I didn't have the heart to tell my mom I didn't want to carry on the family tradition. I didn't want to be a lawyer and I definitely didn't want to intern here all summer. "Yes sweety coffee would be great thank you." She said turning on her computer getting lost in her work.

I grabbed my skittles and my sprite from the vending machines and sat at the little table. I needed time before I went back to my moms office. I grabbed my bag and pulled out the letter. I read it atleast five more times and I was on the verge of tears when Christina walked in.
Christina is my moms assistant and she's like a second mom to me. Whenever my mom gets caught up in a case Christina is always there for me. "Ooh what's this?" She asked as she walked behind me taking the letter from my hands. "The murder of my dreams." I said feeling depressed and embarrassed that I was rejected.

Christina read the letter and turned around looking at my face. "Hey its ok don't feel bad its there loss." She said coming over sitting in the chair next to me. "I really wanted this internship I thought that maybe if I got it I could show my mom that music is not a waste of time."

"Have you decided where you want to go for college?" Christina asked. "Yes I got an interview for AMDA." I said feeling proud of that accomplishment. "That's amazing see everythings not to bad." She said smiling hard. "Yea but you know my mom..." "Wants you to go to Harvard." She said completing my sentence. Ever since I started school my mom as been talking about Harvard. I've never told her I didn't want to go to Harvard. "What if I told you I could find a way to get you that internship." She said leaning closer.

"I would say your the most awesome person on the planet but its not possible they don't want me my beats and lyrics aren't good enough." I said a little sad. "Hey don't talk like that you have a special talent and you should show it off and personally I think your application was amazing with your lyrics and beats and Karlie's singing." She said. I appreciate that she was trying to cheer me up. "They seemed to like Karlie's singing too." "What do you mean?" She asked a little confused. "She got the internship." I said. Karlie is Christina's daughter and my best friend. We've been friends since we were 7 years old when her mom started working for mine.
