Escaping Dreams

I woke up to total darkness in my dreams. It was my first night and I couldn't have a proper dream. I rubbed my eyes, still groggy, and looked up. My door was wide open as if someone had been inside. Instead of the dim lights, there were a deep red lights shining throughout the building.

Usually in horror movies, red lights in a building like this indicated that something was going wrong and that the building probably had to be evacuated, but there was no alarm, and there were no people outside. No yelling, and crying, and screaming. Just the quiet sound of my breathing. I got up out of my bed, slowly, to make sure that I didn't irritate the newly healing lashes and welts, but I felt nothing. No pain, no scars or scabs.

Like I was never whipped. I looked down at my arms and the bruises and scrapes were gone. I couldn't have been asleep long enough to heal so quickly. I walked out of my ward, into the bright red lights of the hallway. All of the other surrounding doors were wide open too.

Maybe something did happen and I slept through it. I started to walk to my left, towards the common room to see if anyone was there. No more music and still, no more people. I looked up into the common room sky lights above, and it was if the stars were sitting on top of the windows, as if they had fallen. Mythical beauty in a hellhole.

I walked out of the common room and down to the stairs in which i had been pushed down. I walked downwards until I got to most likely, the 3rd story. I took a peek inside the Boiler Room. It was cold and the bathtubs weren't filled with water. They were scrubbed perfectly clean of its blood or dirt stains.

I walked through the unfamiliar hallway, unaware of complex twists and turns, and fell down those stairs. I didn't feel pain, and it didn't feel like a harsh fall. It felt as if I was falling millions and billions of miles through the sky. I got back up and brushed myself off, and continued through the 2nd Story. There were no wards or rooms.

Only windows. I walked farther down the hallway to the end, until I reached two double doors. I was cautious to open them, but I was curious. I walked in and shut the doors behind me. Inside was a huge room with scientific and technological surgical equipment. There was a surgical table in the middle of the room, surrounding it being different sized tools.

Still no sight of any human. I went up the stairs inside of the room, only to realize it lead to a little port door. I then again opened that door and crawled myself inside. I walked on knees until the little corridor became big enough so that i could stand up. This hallway was of old and mossy brick, but was clearly untouched.

No one knew of this except for me. My little secret. It was dark inside with only a few small lights, but as i went on, there was a bright light at the end of this corridor. I walked faster and faster until I found myself running. It wasn't just a light, it was a path to the outside world.

Fresh air and big and tall trees. I was finally free.

''WooHoo!'' I yelled as I ran happily through the wooded forest. No one could hear my cheers of joy or happiness. Or so i thought. I started to walk through the forest to real civilization until I heard a branch crack. I looked back, but only thought to myself that it was an animal. I walked on and I heard growling.

I started to run now. Fear and adrenaline filled my body. My first time out in my first day in, and i didn't want to die or be mauled. I ran a few 100 feet, until I couldn't hear anything. I slowed my running down and started to catch my breath, but stopping was a big mistake.

I was jumped on by a large, skinned creature. It was nor animal or human. It smelled of rotten flesh and fresh blood. It's eyes were big and brown, no eyelids or eyelashes. Extra teeth were punctured into it's cheeks so that it's smile was longer on the right side than it was supposed to be on the left.

I was so scared that i just froze in horror, but it sank it's teeth into my neck and started to eat me from the outside in. No body could hear my screams. I thought this was the end, but I woke up. I was up in sweats, my body trembling from such dream. I looked down at my arms, and the bruises were there.

My lashes started to ache. The door was closed. I could hear screaming, and crying, and yelling. It was all just a dream. Or was it?
