For me, somehow a smile can be considered as the greatest mask worn to look tough.

Looking at my reflection in the mirror, this was what fell upon my gaze: A girl wearing a beautiful smile together with her white dress and shoes. Her hair was pure black, contrasting the color of her attire and her long straight hair resting in her both shoulders. Her brown pairs of orbs that staring at me sweetly. I turn around to see my whole dress.

"Happy Birthday" I muttered. I smiled and glance once again at my full body reflection. I excitedly turned around and supposed to walk outside my room but before I could hold the door knob, I heard loud shouts coming outside my room.

"Leocardo! Today is your daughter's 9th birthday for Goodsake!" I heard the voice of my Mom.

"What the hell do you want, Amanda? I even bought her several gifts! Isn't it enough?" I heard my dad said. Are they arguing?

This is the first time I heard Mom and Dad argue and this is the first time that Dad shouted Mom. Dad is visiting me twice a week. Mom said, dad has a work from a far place so, he can't spent the whole week on us. He's visiting me but it didn't last long because he needs to go. And now, today is my birthday and I'm very happy that my Dad came but why they're arguing?

"Your presence is what she needs, not those gifts!"

"You told me to come on her birthday and so I did!"

" My God! All I want is to give her a decent birthday! You should stay here at least one day!" with frustrated voice was dripping each word she said and a desperate tone at Mom's voice. She sounds so fragile at this moment. I never heard mom say such a word like this.

"I have my own family, Amanda. I can't stay here"

And after hearing those words from my dad, I frozed. It's like my world suddenly stopped for a minute. I only hear my fast heartbeats.

Is he going to leave Me and Mom?

Is he going leave us for his real family?

My hands are shaking but still, I managed to open the door just to see them.

Just to see my own mother down on her knees begging Dad not to leave.

"We are you're family too! Why can't you give us your presense just one day, Gustavo! Just one day!" She plead.

I felt water running across my cheeks. Why do I need to experience these things? Why is my fairytale-like world turns into Mess? Why Mom said that, almost crying? Pleading and begging him just for one day...just for my birthday.

"Please, leocardo...just one day..please... for her birthday" She even squawked with her voice.

I looked at them and that moment I forgot to breathe.

Why is my almost perfect family turns into these? Like what I'm witnessing right now.

"Je suis désolé. I can't" Dad told her without blinking an eye.

The living room filled with unbearable silence. I can't imagined what I'm seeing. If I'm just reading a book, I'll say this is so cliche. But this isn't just a scene from some dratic movies. It's real and I hate the fact that I'm beyond that scene watching them like some dramatic scenes in books. Truth is, reality suffocates my mind.

Dad looked up to see my room and his eyes widened in suprised as he saw me staring at them.

Why dad? why? You love us, right? You love me, right? Tell me dad, why? Why are you leaving?
