A/N --> Before you read just know that this is unedited! I do not have an editor yet (yet). Also, this is only the prologue, which means it's in third person and in the beginning the girl is young. For the story she will be seventeen and it will be in first person! Anyways, now that my blabbering has taken up your time, let my story do the same! :)

“It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”

- Anne Frank

_____________

A thin, white line of nicely chopped powder sat in front of her. Indecision was clear on her naturally gorgeous face. The mirror that had been placed carefully on her lap with the drug lying there, tempting her, was driving her mad. Her moms face held a small smirk. She knew what this would do to her child. She was willing to ruin yet another child of her own, not to mention all of the others that weren't even hers she managed to screw up.

The teenage girl couldn't decide what to do. How could her mom force this on her? She was just a child.

“You know the rule girl.” Her mom sneered nastily. “If you're too much of a wimp to do it, off to your daddy's place!”

The girl knew that her daddy didn't want her, but she didn't want to end up like her mom. She wasn't willing to throw her life away yet. Even at the young age of thirteen, she still knew there was something out there for her. Something worth fighting for and she wasn't going to stick around for more drugs, alcohol, and abuse. This wasn't meant for her.

With that final decision in her head, she shoved the drug splattered mirror off of her lap and stood. That was a huge mistake. Almost as soon as she had done so the young girl was shoved harshly against the wall.

“Don't be rude to your mom girl.” The man growled. “Why don't you be good and take this,” he held the rolled up dollar bill to her face. “It won't be too bad, just remember it gets easier after the first time.”

She couldn't think of anything that she could do to escape the situation besides do as they asked. Will power was her only hope now. Surely if she proved that she could do it once then they wouldn't make her do it again, right?

“No, no. If she doesn't want to do it we won't force her.” The mother smiled a lazy smile at her teen daughter. “Go get packed. I'll call your daddy and have him come get you in the morning.”

The girl nodded hastily, happy she could get out of this. Maybe this was finally her chance out.

“Just make sure you lock your door. Gary is coming over tonight and for some odd reason he has a weird fascination with you.” Her mom added.

The girl nodded, happiness still bubbling inside her despite the fact that some creep would be coming over that night and that her daddy might not want her. She scurried off to her room, locking the door behind her and excitedly grabbing an old, used suite case and a duffel bag out from under her bed. At this point she didn't really care if the bags were filthy and turning green from mold.

As she packed, she couldn't help but wonder if her dad really didn't want her. Her mother had always told her things like that, but after a while it became difficult to separate reality with fiction.

Soon after she was done filling the two bags with her belongings she heard her mother on the phone. It was clear that she was drunk, her voice slurring and changing tones often.

“The girl wants you to come and get her tomorrow. Apparently we're not good enough for her anymore.” She paused for a moment. “Whatever, she's too much like you. Won't do anything fun. Shit, just get her out and don't bring her back.” Another pause and then she sent her 'farewell'. “You know where I live, get here early so I ain't gotta see you.”

The foot steps of her mothers high heels coming towards her door caused her to jump. The door knob turned one way and then the other. Her mom was making sure the door was locked before her men started to come around. She had to get money and drugs somehow.

Sighing with relief as she heard her mom leave, the girl spread out on her small bed and wondered what it would be like to live as a princess. Tonight was different though, this time she allowed herself to actually believe in dreams coming true.

Four years later . . .

The car swerved sideways slamming into a red mini van. Rain pounded heavily against the roof and splashed into the car through the shattered windows.

“Claire?” The girl sobbed. “Dad! Dad?” Her eyes were horror stricken as she stared at their lifeless bodies. She was so stuck on the blood dripping down them that she hadn't realized the car was still in motion until they dropped off the road and into a flooded ditch. “Oh god,” she moaned in pain as her side rammed against the car door, left over glass sinking into her arm.

The small sports car flipped once more before settling into the ground. Water sloshed into the car, filling the roof with at least an inch of water. For once the girl was thankful for her short height. She undid her seat belt easily and tried to turn herself to where she would be lying down.

Sirens roared reminding the girl to pray silently that her dad and step mom were okay and would get the help they needed while she tried to work her way out.

Turning onto her stomach so she was lying flat against the ceiling of their car, she looked out, noticing all of the cars stopped and watching. Cursing under her breath for the unwanted attention, she tried to pull herself up on her elbows but the glass in her arm ripped her flesh further. The girl cried out in agony.

Pain over rid any thoughts of getting free from the vehicle. She tried desperately not to pass out because she didn't want to drown in the small amount of water.

A pair of boots settled in front of her window and soon she saw the face of a paramedic. His face was grim and he looked truly sorry for the girl. But she didn't care at the moment, she just wanted out of the stupid sports car that she had insisted Claire get just that last month.

“Can you turn on your back?” He asked loudly.

She shook her head trying to hold the tears back from all of her pain.

Another guy appeared but he walked over to the driver door, looking in on her father and step mother declaring that their injuries were bad, very bad.

“Okay, this is going to hurt.” He grumbled to her. Leaning in through the window he gripped her arms, careful not to slice his fingers on the glass. She hissed at the pain of his hands on her already bruised and swollen flesh.

With a big sigh he swiftly pulled her through the window. Glass slid across her stomach and legs, cutting into them. She screamed out in pain; the pure agony was just too much.

As soon as she was free from the car her eyes closed and she blacked out, dreaming only of the glass shredding her tanned skin.
