Two days later . . .
The smell of smoke filled my lungs burning my throat. I groaned and let my eyes open slowly.
“Oh look the girl is up!” A raspy voice croaked wickedly.
I immediately let my eyes shut again. No, it's just a dream. The girl; My mother and her friends called me that. I never realized how much I hated it until I moved to my fathers and he called me by my name.
“Come on wake up! I haven't seen you in forever!” Another familiar voice rang out. “You remember me right?”
Of course I remembered him. Dawson, one of my many siblings, was sick and twisted.
“Hey! I'm here too. I'm always left out.” A girlie voice whined.
Bailey - my youngest sister. She always felt left out, I noted. Adding up the four years I had been gone to the age I had last seen her I realized she would be twelve now. It was actually hard to believe how fast these last few years has gone by. Especially compared to how slow my childhood seemed to have gone by.
Excepting the fact that I would have to face them eventually I slowly opened my eyes and let them adjust to the dim light. “Hey,” I mumbled dryly.
“Hey girl, miss me?”
My eyes slid over to the voice and I stiffened. Gary Lamb, the man that had a weird obsession with me. I was surprised that he was still around. Guess my mom really liked this one.
“Me and your momma married.” He grinned nastily showing me his hand, as if he could have read my thoughts. A cheap ring sat on his wedding ring finger. Dragging my eyes over to my moms hand I was met with another inexpensive ring.
Looking around the room I noticed how much different Dawson and Bailey looked. Even my mother looked older, at least twenty years older. The drugs were making her face crumble and her cheeks sunk into her face oddly. Her hair was now black, but her natural red hair was peaking at the top. Honestly she looked like a filthy whore, but I would never say that aloud.
Dawson had a scar across his jaw, one he hadn't had the last time I saw him. His hair was now a dark brown instead of dirty blond like it used to be.
Bailey's hair was down to her elbows just like mine. It was the same color too. Her eyes were green instead of blue, but otherwise she looked a lot like me. It was weird since we didn't have the same dad and we didn't look much like our mother.
Gary and my mom intertwined their fingers and grinned grossly at me. “We're going to let you have your old room back. One of my . . . customers was staying in there. But we kicked him out. The lock is broke though, so you might want to be careful.”
Gary's eyes flashed with hope and I felt sick to my stomach. What is wrong with that man?
“Thanks mom,” I murmured. “Do you think I could have a moment to myself?”
She glared at me. “Fine. But don't think that just because you're all hurt and what not you won't be helping out like you did before. Also you have school so I guess you could just go in late if you wanted.” She shrugged. School was never one of the concerns she had for us. "But I'm not sure if the doctor will let you. He's been telling us all sorts of things to stop doing, but we know what's best, honey, don't worry. The doctor should be stopping by here soon.”
