"Mark Dean?" the chubby man said.
"Here," I replied non-enthusiastically.
"Brooke Marsley?" he continued.
"Umm..here?" Brooke said confused.
"Great, everyone's here," he said dully.
I looked over at Brooke and we showed each other our puzzled looks. This confused both me and Brooke as the fact that our names were the only ones on the lists. Were we in trouble? There were more kids in the room. None of them responded to their absence. Why did this school have to get weirder when I thought that it was normal.
"My name is Mr. Mono and I will be your history teacher this year," he continued in monotone.
The class seemed to drag on as Mr. Monotone (Brooke's nickname for him) droned on about the Civil War and the Great Wall of China(?) . The class finally ended when the bell rang. "Oh. Ma. God. That was boring," Brooke exhaled as we exited the room and into the hall.

The rest of the day was normal, if you call normal by being the only ones being called out and no signs of pencils or paper. (If you're curious: Math- Mrs. Alabama [Brooke joked she was missing the crown and sash], Science-Mrs. Phillips {author's note: one of my science teachers was Mrs. Phillips}, English- Ms. Amy, Art- Mr. Stylez [Brooke actually asked if that was his last name was Stylez. He said yes] ) We were walking back to our room, when a guy ran up to us and asked to talk to us. We were polite and answered yes.
"Great. Okay. Where to start? Oh! Have you noticed something weird about the school?" He asked after talking to himself. When he ran up, I didn't immediately look at his appearance, but now that we were talking to him, so I got a better look at him. He was a normal height with skinny limbs and wore a t-shirt that said SPOILER ALERT: EVERYONE DIES. He had short jet-black hair with creamy-brown eyes and the wore the geekiest of glasses.
"Ummm....yah. Mark and I were the only ones being called out in class and there were no papers or pencils," Brooke said dramatically. I had only known Brooke for about a day, but I could never figure out what her personality was. She changed from joking around, sarcastic, plain happy, or really serious so far, until now. Now, I added "drama queen" to the list.
"Thank goodness I am not the only one! Everyone else says I'm crazy and delusional!" the geek exclaimed (Well he could be delusional, but not on this topic). "Oh! I realized that I never introduced myself! My name is Luke," he told us.
"Hi Luke!" Brooke said as she went back to her plain happiness," My name is Brooke and my partner in crime here is Mark."
Then I thought, "What if we were criminals here?"
